Ok here goes my explanation of how I got some sort of success with growing emersed aquatic plants.
    Firstly the substrate
My mix was a big bag of potting soil any kind from local nursery is good.
One big back of Microbe lift plant substrate. Ore you kan use any clay based gravel.
One bag of commercial bonsai mix from nursery for the hell of it. it was about a 5kg bag
For fertilizers I used some nails pushed into the substrate for added iron.
few pellets of rapped raiser slow release fertilizer. could not get osmocote that would've been better.
lite sprinkle of bone meal for the hell of it.

    lights
I made some DIY light fittings and used a combination of cool white and warm white bulbs
    [IMG]
Total light about 250w/m2 if I remember correctly now

    housing
I used a old standard 1.2 tank with sliding glass lids.

    planting containers
I am using 2l ice cream and some margarine tubs.
then I drill lots of small holes in the bottom about 3mm in size.
this will prevent you from over watering the plants. When I put these container's inside the tank I raise them about 50mm from the bottom so that they do not sit directly into any water.

I tried to get the humidity to round 90+ but with no success it only got up to between 80 and 82 so the transition between submerged growth to emersed was more difficult with some of the plants dieing back completely and then some shot up new emersed growth from nowhere after a few weeks.

    watering
in the first few weeks I was misting the plants 2 to 3 times a day and now I mist only every couple of days sometimes skipping up to two weeks. I only use regular tap in a spray bottle.

now for some plant pics in this setup using this method

    7. [IMG]

Now would anybody be so kind to iD what the hell I was growing here. I know some but not all the proper names so please help me out here.

I'm impressed with your result. It looks tremendous, but somehow I cannot suppress the feeling that the exporters clip their hedges and sell the offcuts as "water plants". :laughing7:

also had some crypts in there and some micro swords but that I removed to use in my last scape I started. yeah yeah again not rare plants I know :evil6:

you could get a atomizer mist maker and set it to go off every few hours,
and it would look amazing as well!

    i like what you've done

Pierre's emersed setup with some success

    Nice setup, and great results!!

All I used in my setup was potting soil and osmocote, and it worked like a bomb!

Now get some new species in there!!
