Need advice for emersed greenhouse

Hi guys.
So my emersed plant collection is growing rapidly and now the problem is that with all the tubs and pots in our spare bed room the other half is starting to get crabby with me getting more species of plants.
So I am looking to maybe move outside and into a green house type idea.

Anyone have experience with this and how to make a simple but effective green house, also what sun levels, and time period of sun should they get? I stay in Pta so I know that direct midday sun will cook the collection so, thinking only afternoon or morning sun.

Any advice or suggetions would be great

Can't I use plastic sheeting covered with shade cloth

 

Cant you buy small "greenhouses" from Builders or Plant Ranch??

 

You can but at nearly 10k a pop not going to be possible. Was thinking getting 2x4 and making a box and lining with plastic

 

My mom did the same at my parents' house...for her orchids. Have to change the plastic after the summer...sun burns it #$%^ed up!!

Unless you can place some proper shade netting over it to protect the plastic a bit...

 

Was going with 40% shade cloth

 

With the shade cloth you may find that you not getting enough light? There are greenhouses on the market for less than 10k you could get ones for less that 5k

 

It's still a lot cheaper to build your own... you can do it for under 2k provided the plastic isn't very expensive.

 

Was looking at clear dropsheets from paint shops

 

My experience on Saturday tells me it can't be in full sun for more than an hour or so. I nearly killed my plants by cooking them LOL so I think that if it's in a shaded area which gets dappled sunlight, the clear plastic shouldn't be a problem, but if it's going to be in full sun, the plants will melt. I may be wrong, this is the first I'm experimenting with emersed growth, but since moving the plants to a shaded area on Sunday morning, they've bounced back.

 

I just saw a post on FB on how to build a green house out of recycled bottles. I'm going to try this (once I have enough bottles) and let you know how it goes.

Might need an expert to jump in, Can an emersed setup be in shade for most day and get sun from about 3ish till sundown? would that indirect light be enough with the short period of sun

 

My immersed setup is in the shade for most of the day other than the late afternoon and the plants are doing quite well.

 

How many hours sunlight do you think it gets?

 

Probably around about only 4 hours of direct sunlight. The rest of the time it is in the shade.

I grown emmersed moss in the shade. It get's no sunlight at all, and it grows just fine. For aquatics they're shaded by trees, and stuff in the wild, so indirect light will be fine. As long as there's not a hell of a lot of direct sunlight, you'll be fine.

It's temperature. If the temps start going over 25, you'll be in trouble. I tested this with a little "aquaponics" system plumbed into my discus tank. The discus temps were 30 degrees, and the plants melted. The moment I plumbed them onto their own little sump, the dying stopped. Those temps were roughly 22 degrees. And they're still alive today, 4 months later.

 

How about a 3 tier Grow Tent?.
