No Longer Required Eheim Impeller 2217 (AEH7633600)

Hey guys,

As the title says, looking for a new impeller for my one 2217 canister. Anyone know which LFS stocks spare parts, or will order from Daro for me? Preferably as close as possible to Centurion...

Out of interest what is wrong with the impeller ? I have several 2217s and one is currently behaving oddly, it does not always restart when turned off, it can however sometimes start on its own several minutes later, it's not a loose connection power thing. I also think it's a bit noisier than the other 2217s. Should I also replace the impeller I wonder ?

 

Well, the Engineer (@Ivan ) Sorted 3 of my Tetratec canisters with a straw round the impeller shaft...
Running quieter than the new ones...

 

We (actual @Ivan did...) opened my 2217 a week or so ago because it was getting noisy. Found the one impeller blade was chipped (I suspect a granule of sand or something got sucked up).

It's rattling inside the casing, so I think the impeller shaft is damaged...most likely because of the obstruction in the blades (maybe just old age, has been running for over 10 years). So I figured it's time I replaced it...it's still working fine, just nosier than my others

 

Sounds as the Ivanisevic is clutching at straws again

Is this how it all works or is this something far bigger, as then it's perhaps more than just the impeller ?

A magnetic drive pump uses a balanced magnetic field to create the rotation of the fluid impeller. Unlike a traditional centrifugal pump which has a direct drive connection between impeller and motor, a mag-drive pump eliminates the direct drive mechanism and replaces it with a magnetic field. An outer magnetic bell housing is mounted on the end of the pump shaft. This outer bell is aligned on the outside of the rear casing. The pump impeller is connected to a smaller magnet assembly and rides on an internal shaft and bushing assembly. The smaller magnet assembly is mounted within the center of the magnetic field of the outer bell housing. True...unless the shaft is damaged. I'd rather fork out R400 or R500 for a new impeller and test it, hope it works and sorts out my issue. Than dropping 2k on replacing something that could've been fixed.

Then again...If i buy a new one...I would have spares...hmmmmm

 

Yikes so 2K now, I think I paid about 1.1 for my first 2217. Please keep me posted on the impeller availability ?
