Nothing like a mess up like this to keep you humble. So last year I bought six plants at Sams.. small things.. almost dead.. put it at the back of the tank.. looked like balansae.. They slowly recovered.. but I was noticing that the leaves were looking differently.. with all the travel and busy life I took no notice. This is a very low maintenance tank.. most is automated. Now I saw a petiole.. and it will have a flower.. but it is not a crypt flower.. looks like some aponogeton. Will take some pictures later today to see if this plant can be identified.. got four of them ..
Aponogeton ulvaceus. I have one that survives anything. It loses all its leaves on occasion but bounces back stronger
The narrow, crinkly leaves look more like A. longiplumulosus than A. ulvaceous, and the flower colour matches, but both of those species normally have a forked flower spike. Asian species have a single spike. It could be A. crispus or could easily be a commercial hybrid, maybe with A. crispus and/or A. undulatus among its of the lineage.
It looks like A., Crispus.. but it can be anything.. will move it to another tank, getting fat leaves now..
Looks like A. crispus to me. I picked up a small one (10cm) at Yuppiepets and within 4 months had reached about 45cm + tall, leaves about 2cm wide and starting to trail along the water surface now. Was really quick in finding its feet in my tank. Anyways, mine was labelled A. crispus in an Anubias-labelled pot, but if I recall it was something like A. crispus "var. crispus". Will post a pic sometime, peash
Hi @Luis Embalo, do these look familiar? This is my aponogetons latest flower, easily its tenth in a row! Even clipping its flower stems didn't stop this guy, but I only tried clipping once or twice a few months back. Guess it will eventually stop flowering, maybe once winter kicks in? This plant is in quartz gravel, lit with a 30w aquasky for 8hrs a day, CO2, standard quartz gravel, EI and no root tabs. Will post some pics of its leaves sometime soon, but they look identical to yours. Mine get quite copper-colored. Anyways, here's the flower
I totally agree @mattie , can't say iv seen anything similar in the aquatic plant world. Anyone else have some snaps of aponogeton flowers? Would be cool to start a thread particular to the genus, as not many people seem to keep them here in SA?
