    Rocks...just put rocks on top of the wood. It keeps them down till they waterlogged (mine usually takes about 2 weeks)

    I can give you a million rotala clippings (well...more like 70 or so...lol), but I'm in Centurion...

    Welcome to Jozi! And I promise, it ain't so bad at all. I moved up from Durban, and I haven't looked back. Lovely city this!

    I ended up boiling my spider wood for ±20mins and that helped to waterlog it a lot, and then as @Deadpool mentioned, attach it to some rocks which will help settle it.

    Unfortunately I lost a lot of my plants over the holidays (poor upkeep from the house sitter and poor planning on my behalf) so I can't help with plants just yet.

    But good luck and again, welcome to the best city :)

    Pouring boiled water over them wont work, you have to actually boil them in a pot

    Wedging them down with a stick might damage your lid, or scratch your glass. Best option...hold your wood on the gravel and place a rock on top of the wood

    Interestingly I'm currently breeding high quality TB's in spring well point water half mixed with RO.

    I want to plumb the entire house with well point, if somebody can kindly guide me how this can be done, presumably a pressure tank is required ? I understand you need 4 bar pressure at your tap. I have x2 10,000L storage tanks for the garden and then a booster pump from there.

    You want bacteria? I read somewhere that to start bacteria, all you need is to add a bit of fish food to your tank and then leave your filter to do its job. Takes like a week or two before you can safely add fish. Otherwise you can find Scape Bac-Up from Betterweather to start your tank.

    @Joshua Tree: Hahahaha but dammnit help the dude...

    I just chucked loads of clippings last night :-(.. I will see if I can scrounge up a few more. Bac-up from scape is the business. Less change of cross contamination. PS Im in Randburg if you want to pop past on the weekend

    @Mikeslab your tank looks AWESOME!.
    will pm you soon.i'd like to pop around next weekend if all goes well.

    ps. added fish day 1.
    day 2. all dead - never cleaned my filter in a few months and guess some toxins built up in there.
    did all my tests though, pH, GH, NO2, NO3 TDS all ok. but i did dunk untreated spider root from the pet store in there so i was asking for trouble i guess.
