    Hi All,

I had an unfortunate experience yesterday in that one of the pipes on my Tetratec ex600 came off and the tank siphoned to about 1/4 of being totally empty:eek::(:crybaby2: I cleaned the filter on Sunday and the fitting on the valve that screws onto the hose adapter broke, so I made a plan which evidently was not executed well enough.

The fish are still swimming, lost quite a few cows that likes to forage in the eheim skimmer. The skimmer ran dry for a few hours and I think it over heated and is not running as quietly as before... but its running.

Anyway, it looks like most of the algae is dying so that is a plus and I am looking at possibly getting a new filter.... an Eheim:) The Tetratec is well over 10 years old and I will weight up the pros and cons of replacement part cost vs a new Eheim.

So, where is the best place (good price and service) to buy an external canister Eheim filter in SA and in Gauteng?

Secondly which model should I get for my ADA 60P?

    Thanks

Oh no not cool man, If you seriously have the money to go the eheim route go for it, otherwise the Dophin range is the best value for money. You will need a dophin c500 canister for this size tank.

Agree with Deadpool, Petmasters Boksburg has been my go-to for filters for years. Competitive prices and a decent range of models most times. I got my Classic 2215 about a year ago for R1500, running on a 60x50x45cm tank and very happy with the amount of circulation. Otherwise, pop in to Lifestyle and check what their prices are like?

I have not seen any EHEIM professionel 4e+ would love to know if anybody else has. I bought the last 3e+ form Lifestyle a few months back, think they only have some of the older models left - so maybe you find a good deal.

Anybody bought an eheim from Looly Locks or the shop near Centurion Mall (not Dorry)?

First eheim was from Looly Locks - just before they moved to the new spot - so that a few years now.
The other since then 4 was staggered from lifestyle - can not remember the prices but at the time if I did a euro / rand conversion at that point it was about the same as if I ordered it from http://www.aquaristikshop.com/aquaristic/filter-technic/ with shipping etc included, only difference I got it same day.

    I see the 2215 flow rate is 620 l/h for aquariums sized 120 - 350 l and the 2217 is flow rate is 1000 l/h for aquariums sized 180 - 600 l. The tetratec ex600 is specced at 600 l/p, so realistically maybe 300-400 l/h.

I can adjust the flow rate using a valve if I take the 2217, but I also don't want all my fishes becoming bodybuilders just to survive. The 2217 will also have a lot more filter material which is a plus.

From what I remember is that you want the total aquarium volume to be turned around about 2-5 times in an hour. The ADA ES600 superjet is specced at 5.5 - 6 l/min that is 330-360 l/p.

The question, would you buy the 2215 or 2217 for a 60 liter tank?

Does both the 2215 and 2217 come with the disconnect valves?

That is an option, but it would only work up to a certain point.
