Ok so Im not sure if it's the earlier sunrise but I was getting some green spot algae (very minor) on the side glass facing the window. Tank is about 3 meters from the window but now gets diffused sunrise light from sunrise to about 9 am when the tank lights go on. After that the sun goes behind a building. The GSA is on the glass below the substrate.

I've now decided to change to the time the lights are on. There were on from 9am till about 3 pm. But Ive changed that to 2pm till 8pm. For one I'm not at home during the day and it's nice to see the lights on when I get home and for the early part of the evening. Does this not interfere with the natural light cycle of fish?

Would love to know what other APSA members lights on times are?

Oh the light coming through the window is diffused and not direct. there is a blind but some light bounces off the tiles

all my tanks except one are on from 14:00-22:00

the one that is different is from 10:00 -16:00 and is right by a glass sliding door, so i was trying to sync my lighting and CO2 with the bright sunlight the tank receives during the day..

Mine are also on from afternoon into evening, one because I'm around then, and two they can double as room lights and save energy.

Yup, mine go on at 14:00 and off at 21:00. It's pointless having fish tanks if you never see what's in them.

Am I missing something? Don't plants need a longer photoperiod?

The longer the lights are on the bigger the chance to get algae.
