    Your tank is looking awesome.

You need to get an external filter. The next time you clean your internal filter take a photo to see the difference:)

    Thanks :)

Had an external filter amd never used it. Problem was the canopy of the tank and having to make holes in it to accomodate the external filter hoses. Its either that or get rid of the canopy and then find a new light unit. The tank is in the living room and an oddyssea unit would be quite harsh on the eyes if you sit on the couch next to the tank. I hear you though!

Is it a standard plastic canopy or a DIY one?.

The glare of the lights is a huge reason why my lights are in an enclosed canopy.

Update on the monte carlo carpet experiment in a low tech tank.

    Initially added in April 2016.

    monte carlo carpet april 2016.jpg

And what it looks like now 6 months later nearly! Painfully slow but it grew!

    montecarlo carpet.jpg

Now if i can just get the moss to grow like it used to. Still have no clue why it suddenly stunted. Will create another thread with details.

You've had a few occasions where you have had problems with one plant or another. Go back in your tank journal and see if there is any sort of pattern? Ambient temperature, seasons of the year, phases of the moon >:D ...ok maybe not phases of the moon but you get the point. :D

Getting there! Quick update and will do a trim and remove filters this weekend to take a better picture. Got some more monte carlo to plant on the left side so finally the entire foreground will eventually be carpeted except for the tunnel entrance. Given that the tank is still as low tech as possible it will likely take another 6 months! IMG_20170517_081749_206.jpg

Forgot to mention that I added another piece of spiderwood on the right side to fill the empty space. Not entirely sure it works but wait till plants grow on it properly and then see.

Massive difference after removing the SAE's! Cant believe how much damage to the moss they did. And their replacements are much better :) 2017-05-17 10.54.25_20170517105505134.jpg

Simply stunning! Where in the world did you get that wood? I need some!

I need to swap some trimmings with you someday. If I have anything worth trading for

Hi Richard. Fertilizing as little as possible! But when i do water changes every other week i add in some of prof @Dirk B 's druppels :) normally do a 30 % water change and then add in 6ml of the DSD.

Quick update. Did a quick trim and wanted to show how easy it is to clean ,trim and vacuum the tank. Every piece of spiderwood can be removed individually. I trim outside of the tank like a bonsai tree. Then put all the pieces in the spare bathtub. Tank is completely empty apart from small rocks and the only plants are the blyxa and carpet. So easy to vacuum the substrate and clean the glass. Then just add the spiderwood back like a puzzle. 2017-05-29 10.19.43_20170529103039542.jpg

Once the pieces are arranged I do a quick water change and clean one of the filters.

Took a full tank pic with the filters removed but its was dark so sides are not lit up by the outside lighting.
