Check out this growth on one of my minnows nose/forehead. He is eating and going about his normal business though. Battling with buoyancy as he rear seems to being floating upwards all the time. So he constantly swimming slightly downwards counteracting his rear "floating" upwards all the time. The growth has gotten bigger over a few weeks and only this one fish has it.

(Aplogies for photo quality. The speed of my cellphone camera's focus just cant cope with the fish not keeping still for a single moment.)

One of my cardinals developed a similar growth.
It seems contagious and began spreading in the school.

Treatment with garlic worked. I left one feeding per day steep in a saucer of one clove finely grated garlic for about an hour or two then fed to fish. Mainly used granules but I guess flakes will work too.

Growths disappeared and fish generally appeared more active.

Still not sure what the disease or cause is though.

Hi, thanks for the response but not sure what this means. Can you break this down or rephrase please?

    Hi Neville
Finely grate 1 clove of garlic in a saucer
Add about a teaspoon of water
    Throw fish food over this
Let it stand about an hour or two then feed to fish

The fish don't seem to eat the garlic but it decomposes fairly quickly.

You can buy garlic guard but it comes in a large bottle. Enough to treat your fish until the year 2099

The fish seem to enjoy it, and it apparently keeps away vampires

The condition is lymphocystis. Seems to be the result of stress but not serious enough to cause harm to the fish, except if left untreated for an extended period.
