Weird growth on java fern.

    Can someone tell me if this is algae? My java fern has something growing on it.

    This happens when that specific leave are busy dying off and not growing anymore, they then produce small plant lets.
    That you see is the root system of the so called javatjies as Trevor said

    Yay!!! So I'll be the father of baby javas lol im just wondering do i need to remove them at a certain stage? I have 2 big leaves that have alot of these javatjies on them.

    the javatjies tend to grow faster initially if kept attached to the parent leaf, but quite soon the exhausted parent leaves start giving up and their condition deteriorates, at that point it's best to give the youngsters the keys to freedom.. :)

    They can continue growing happily attached like this for months.

    To remove them when they are big enough give a gentle tug and they will slide off the parent plant

    Cool, thanx alot guys , I was worried its some kind of algae that i need to battle but to my surprise it turns out ill be having javatjies

    Ill keep them growing on the parent leave till they are ready to be set free.

    Im just wondering...i have windelov jave fern aswell, do they also get javatjies?
