Bought some S.Repens yesterday and was wondering how I was gonna plant them in the gravel without those long tweezer things then last night I dreamt that I used wooden chopsticks. Doubt I'm the first to think of doing so but I was rather chuffed this morning!

Thought I modify the idea and dip the ends of the chopsticks in aquariun silicone for better grip and not to damage the stems.

You reckon it's a decent hack?!

Apparently @azurekoi is quite the master at planting with chopsticks. My big hands and chopstick however don't work well together.

Hehe, I originally was planting with chopsticks, even flattened the ends to have a better surface to hold the plants.

You need really good chopsticks skills if u want to do that. Especially when it comes to not holding the plants too tight or u will just squish damage the stem or the roots. Believe u me, I'm chinese and it is quite difficult to get it right. But go ahead and give it a go.

Hey Guys. Chopsticks work fine, but to ease clumsy finger skills, you could/should mod it a bit. Use some elastic band on the back end, and use a piece of toothpick as a wedge close to the end as a little pivot. Works a charm...

LOL I cant even use them to eat so will keep to my tweezers but as a hack I would think it should work well if you have the skills to do so.

I just placed about 15 pieces of s repens into the gravel. Started using chopsticks then gave up on the 3rd cutting! Wish I had read @veldjakkals @Chongkie responses before about elastic band and toothpick wedge. They kept slipping out.

I used to plant by hand never thought of using them cause they are unwieldy. Went to a reptile shop got a planting tweezers and hav not looked back since. And they chose to use the sticks cause they want to stay nice and thin LOL

well the "trick" is to pick up your rice bowl put it by your mouth and shovel the rice into your mouth. Picking up your own plate or bowl etc, whilst eating, in our culture isnt rude.

OOOH so you do not pick up the rice but the bowl sounds like you could then actually enjoy your dinner.

    Very interesting, thanks for sharing!

Had a look the first evening we where in Thailand, picked a place that the locals ate at, in they order a few dishes and everyone shares compared to the western way of a single dish per person, think it is so much nicer and you are not limited to one dish.

I love to see white people in Hong Kong, trying to eat like chinese people... you can see that just picking up that bowl of rice is going against everything they have learnt for their whole lives. It is so funny.. hehe.. P.s. no offence to any white folks out there! :p

Another thing to remember, Chinese rice is different to "Tastic"... it sticks together and is softer. so actually it is easy to "pick" the rice up. hehe

Try this... Take some peanuts, and try pick them up with chopsticks. if you can transfer 100 peanuts from one bowl to another, then you might be able to plant plants.. hehe :evil6:

Am I right in saying that you shouldn't lower your head to the bowl? In other words, you pick up the bowl and bring it to your head, but you don't lower your head to be closer to the bowl (on the table).

I love eating sticky (or sushi) rice! And feel I HAVE to use chopsticks, even if there's only one grain left in the bowl. ^_^
But I've never tried planting with chopsticks, though. Will def give it a try next time! :D
