    Hi Everyone!

There’s been some talk amongst Raymond, Ryan, Andre and I about uploading pictures to APSA.

Recently we have found an ISP which offers unlimited traffic and disc space. The only down side is that if we use this ISP, their servers are sitting in the USA which means that it will use your international internet cap.

What this means is that if you are on an internet plan which allows you to surf local sites uncapped but you are capped internationally, you won’t be able to access APSA if your international cap is used up because APSA will be sitting on servers off shore. (If that makes sense?)

Of course if you are using unlimited cap, this will not affect you in any way.

We have already done the upload and download test and there is almost no difference in speed between our current ISP and the one we want to move to but the biggest perk would be the ability to upload pics in a reply without using an image hosting site!

So we need your votes now. To go off shore and have pic upload functionality or to stay local, surf for free and have no pic upload functionality.

    Regards,
    APSA Mod Team

Can you not look at the same ISP that TASA is using? Uploading pics there is simple enough...

What I have found is that when Seacoms goes down, international sites are terrible. Whilst local are still fast. Mixed feelings on this one.

I agree... I don't mind using photo upload sites. I've been doing it for years, and I'm used to it.

hey Kim, ISP has nothing to do with method of upload. what we want is unlimited space and unlimited traffic so that we can switch on the option for allowing to upload to APSA when you reply etc.

Sean, its more for newer members who are often discouraged from the site and the community when they cant post pics of problems or their tanks.

this is one of the most complaints we have and this is one option of solving it.

I don't understand about people battling to upload pics. Its not rocket science.
I use 3G internet so it would be no difference for me.

Also since i joined i had 3 times i couldnt connect to APSA
but seacom lines are off maybe once every second to third month for an day or so,

The upload would be so much better !

If i read all unread posts during the month via tapatalk i used 48 mb from start of month
So it wont be such a bad thing ,

    I say change.

Not everyone is using "local" image host for there image hosting. Eg some of my images are linked via google images which originate from international servers.

So just because we can doesn't mean we are currently using local image servers, so then we still might be using international cap to load the externally hosted images anyway.

Also bandiwdth usage of APSA is minimal compared to any other social network site...

Fair enough. I say implement it then. But how much down time will there be when the change over happens?

It would be nice. I have to view APSA at home if I want to see pics. IT block image hosting sites so I can read the threads but see nothing!

It will be so much easier to be able to upload directly to the site, I mostly use Tapatalk for this function and then the pictures are not that great.

While the upload feature is essential to a great user experience moving your website overseas is a bit drastic. I am generally in favour of hosting local sites locally.
I run cichlid-forum.co.za with the SMF platform on Hetzner servers through Cybnet.co.za and have no problem uploading attachments... they don't give you unlimited bandwidth but they're getting there....

I am fine with the move. If it is going to help the site then go for it. Just a question for you guys. Why does forum runner not work with this site?
