Hi Fellow Aquarium fanatics So as I mentioned a few months ago, I wanted to start a shop. Well I have made some progress in the interim, First off I used the suggestions made by starting a pop up shop, this was rather a catchy idea and also more cost effective. To give you some background this was way more pricey than I expected, to give you an idea of what I was in for here is the story: I started by looking at storefronts like at malls and arcades, unfortunately they all had this clause in the contract..... A deposit of R100 000 up front and a refund will be paid out 2 months after your lease expires, further more the general rental rate was going at R10 000 - R20 000 pm excl water and lights. So this through me out of a store front and I was left down in the dumps of turning my passion and my hobby into a business and something I will enjoy doing. I was then approached by an investor whom suggested in supplying me with capital, a premises and some guidance along the way. The idea behind it was that I had to start slow/small and prove that this business is viable. The investor also made me sign surety (the word I dreaded most of my life) so there is a lot of risk that could implicate my future in my personal capacity. The capital I got was well under 50K. The idea was to start small and grow this into a business eventually with a full frontal store eventually, I had to also build off the trust that most of you had in me as I am risking a lot to make this happen. I got quotes on tanks, stands and other goodies but all so pricey. Suppliers was also very difficult to come by for some reasons I would rather not mention. So I had to do intensive research and also do things myself which other LFS would have hired other people to do. For instance building a stand to house 13 tanks. I had hassles with suppliers and certain constraints holding me back from getting exactly what I wanted. I have now found a supplier with whom I deal directly with and I am cutting out the middle man. My equipment is due to arrive on Saturday, there was also a delay with this as the glass order was delayed this indirectly had a delay on my imports and as I was supposed to receive the order today. This also set me back a bit and demotivated me, but at last it seems things are falling into place. I will update this thread accordingly, feel free to please make suggestions and give positive criticism? @shihr and @wearsbunnyslippers I will become a sponsor as soon as I get my shipment in, in the meantime I would like to post this as I would like to give everyone the opportunity to see what actually goes on behind the scenes of any LFS. Some pics to follow of equipment and the initial setup.
