He's cleaning it for you. When that one is clean, he'll move to the others. It's what they do. That's why you should always have wood in a tank with Ancistrus.

I don't mind...I'll just replace the huts as soon as they are "clean"...my only concern, the coconut hairs that he is eating. They wont affect him badly would they?

Quick update...glad to say...75days in...apart from the occasional GSA here and there...no other algae issues as of yet...

Just seriously getting pissed at the Vallis...cutting out 20cm plus every week...which I think is A LOT for a super low tech tank. All in all...I'm quite happy...although they growing real slow (as can be expected...as I'm not even dosing excel in this tank), the quality of plant growth isn't all too bad.

Unfortunately you cant propagate Vallis from cuttings...all you can do is throw the cuttings away. Sorry...will let you know when I do have runners tho...

@shihr has awesome Vallis Nana for sale tho...bought some a while back...they dont grow as quickly as normal Vallis, but are more manageable and hardier IMO

OK I'm also late in seeing this. Very cool! As long as the other half is happy, then that's awesome. The steps between the "huts" are a winner for me. 10/10 points for effort and creativity. She must be one special lady

So after redoing my Galaxy tank...Sharon wanted a new scape in her tank as well...wanting it to look more like the "Smurf Forest" (didn't even know that was a "thing")

Anyway...we decided to place two "trees" in the scape around the Smurf huts (after watching the move...again) and replaced the normal Vallis with Vallis Nana (regular Vallis just took over the previous scape). Tied around 30 pieces of Anubias Nana "Petite" to the two trees...as I like the look more than the usual "moss trees". Will remove rocks on top of the tree once it's waterlogged

Her shark also seems to like the bigger cave more...and constantly darts in and out.

PS. Lot of growing needs to happen...but she likes it...and if she's happy...I'm happy :p

I smurf it, and you've given me an idea with those coconut huts! The tree's look pretty smurfsome too and the anubias suits the scape more than moss would.

    Smurfalicious :D

Quick update...but you lose the sense of depth in this photo. @Sc ubabravo saw this tank a few days ago...and would be able to confirm...you get a way better sense of depth when viewing up close and personal. Not sure if it's because of the "anubias trees" or "Jaw's cave"...oh well :p

    smurf_230215.jpg

PS. I know Gargamel is lying ass-up in the Anubias...need to resilicone him back into place this weekend :p

Absolutely , the photograph does not do the Aquarium any justice. The plants look vibrant, and those Cardinals schooling together simply look stunning.

    its your photo :p

look at your tank and note where the best view is. then take the pic accordingly.. some tanks look good at different angles.. bottom up view, top down view.. etc..

also try using less exposure so your pic doesn't look so washed out.. then lastly, use a image editor to enhance the colours to what you see in real life..
