As some of you may know...I've been busy with one or two DIY projects for my better half's :icon_smurf::icon_smurfin::icon_brilsmurf: Smurf Tank :icon_brilsmurf::icon_smurfin::icon_smurf:

First was the DIY coconut huts:
    http://www.apsa.co.za/xenforo/threads/the-smurf-tank.11481/

Then the DIY Oak Cabinet for the tank:
    http://www.apsa.co.za/xenforo/threads/smurf-tank-cabinet.11570/

And as promised "we" got to scaping the tank over the long weekend...

    Tank:
    - Standard 3ft tank with bracing on top (rather safe than sorry with the hood)...black vinyl on the back

    Filtration:
    - Eheim Classic 2217

    Lighting:
    - Had some spare T8 ballasts and tubes lying around...so in the went (for now). Will most likely upgrade them to T5's sooner rather than later.

    CO2:
    - None...another Low Tech tank :D

    Substrate:
    - ADA AquaSoil
    - ADA Power Sand L
    - Mixed with some "normal" gravel just to break the dark look a bit

    Ferts:
    - Tropica Specialized
    Livestock:
    - 5 x Cardinal Tetras...
I'll add another 15-20 next week
    - 1 x RTBS I'm hoping he will have the Cardinals Schooling tighter
    - 2 x SAE's
    - 1 x Longfin Ancistrus

Thinking of either adding some of my shrimps to this as well, or some Ottos...still undecided

Plants: From left to right as seen in the photo underneath)
    - Vallisneria
    - HM
    - Staurogyne Repens
    - Blyxa Japonica

    - Amazon Sword
    - Cryptocoryne Wendtii "Green"

    - Anubias Barteri var. Barteri
    - Lilaeopsis Novae-Zelandiae
    - Alternanthera Reineckii 'Lilacina

    - Anubias Barteri var. Nana
    (On top of shark cave)
    - Flame Moss (On top of shark cave)
    - Rotala SP Green

Photo taken 24hours after layout was finished...

Hahahahaha! That's actually pretty cool! Although, I do think that RTBS will cause problems down the line. They get quite aggro when bigger.

Probably will...I took him out of my Tiger Barb tank. Wanted to take him to my LFS, but the missus said "Jaws is family...you can't get rid of him"

So for now...he stays...will see what happens down the line :argue:

She's over the moon...which in turn is great for me :p Only problem...chocolates & flowers wont work in the future when I screw up now

PS. @shihr thanx for the input concerning the rock hardscape buddy ;)

So quick update...I realised two 50mm SAE's in a newly planted tank = NOT A GOOD IDEA.

Woke up yesterday to more floating HM and S.Repens than were planted :BangHead::BangHead: So moved them back to my community tank (might sell the community livestock soon as I saw the most beautiful Pink Danios at Dorry's last night)

Anyway...replanted the plants and added shrimp...and all the plants are still intact this morning.

Here are some pics of the livestock...

    - 20 x Cardinal Tetras...
    20140620_075152.jpg

    - 8 x Cherries

    20140620_075139.jpg

    - 1 x Longfin Ancistrus (which oddly enough has become WAY darker...anyone know why that can be?? He was light brown...almost tan for about 2months...now this)

I saw the SAE's "at work"...maybe it's coz the tank is new and there's not a lot of food...so they where savaging like mad...

The shark is quite docile actually Sean...he or she...has been like that since the first day (about a year ago). Hope I'm lucky and it stays like that...

    One week in...

    20140622_191420.jpg
Apart from the Vallis that took a knock from the Excel...plants are settling in nicely. More importantly...Cardinals are schooling better and are not hiding underneath the Swords anymore...

Only problem...the Ancistrus is having a field day with the coconut right at the back left, he doesn't leave it alone. Hope he wont get constipated or something from all the coconut hairs :s
