This is the first time I’ve had a leech in my tank, and I just happened to spot it when doing maintenance, I’ve had planaria before. Wonder how they get in the tank...

    • CompTIA A+ 220-901 (Hardware) (refresher)
    • CompTIA A+ 220-902 (Software) (refresher)
    • CompTIA N+ (refresher - I suck at this one big time)
    • CompTIA Server+
    • CompTIA Security+
    • CompTIA Linux+ LX0-103
    • CompTIA Linux+ LX0-104
Am about to book the first three for end of January to write the exams.

Very nice, once you have your LPI you should be set to either go RHEL or Suse and then specialize in those platforms, after that the entire virtualization thing is a must ... that sets you up for devops or security specialization. Both are hot topics for people that have the right outlook on life. ie. $h1th@pp3n$ lets fix it now and prevent it in the future.

You might get lucky and land a remote support job or even a security spec ops ... but yes book knowledge then practical how to is important. More important - nobody cares what you could do for them yesterday - they all want the now and tomorrow delivery.

Good luck on the preparation and the exams ..

PS certification means somebody might look at your CV i.e. opens the door - ability and attitude wins the day.

Thanks Ferdie. The reason why I have to have them done by May is that I am going overseas but it's not confirmed when I will be going to the UK - my parents are hoping that I"ll get my UK papers and everything done before they go to the UK for business in May and ideally it'll be better if I went with them at the same time.

I"m actually aiming for a cyber security job but the problem is the below modules were bundled at a really good price so I decided to take that and get my certifications. Then once I'm in the UK, I can study further to do the CSA+ (Cyber Security Analyst) and also the prerequisites for the CSA+ is security and server so I got to do the bundle first before I can go for the CSA+.

Sounds like a plan .. then also see if you can not get vendor certification done ... that opens allot of doors esp in the UK.

I did the 901 and 902 two years back, then moved on to MCSA, see if you can get some cbt nuggets videos, they helped alot, had the whole servers setup at home and some virtual ones to do practical while watching the videos, i only paid for the exams.

Life got in the way and now im stuck as a ATM technician no time to study

@Clappies: Yeah nice thing about these is that I"m doing them online so I"m stuffing in as much as I can learn through the day and even through the night. Plus they have video lecturers and subtitles on top of that so this is cool. Plus you can have the option to read transcripts and download them as well for offline reading. then there's the option of contacting a mentor for stuff which I've never bothered to use as I really don't need a mentor (pretty much understand almost everything, having over 10 years of experience in IT).

There are some things I"m struggling to memorize - they ask you to identify which RAID level is which and also ports that go with each number. I've not been able to wrap my head around to memorizing these.

I've no problem setting up virtual servers and web servers, having fiddled with VM over the years.

Nice one. Also tell yourself that anything is possible. I'm deaf and female, having fought the odds to become a technician. First job had only male guys... Lol.

Ah that sucks. 6 people dropped IT this year, from 15 to 9. But if you really like it it's super easy to learn, just put your head to it.
