the aim is to bleach the leaves and not the roots.
Here is a photo of the Anubais tank. I have had some of these plants for many years. Its still a bit cloudy. I will still move things around. For now I am just waiting for the tank to cycle properly before adding corys.
Definition of we are doomed, stupid cant be cured. I get an sms notification to pick up my parcel from postnet today and mother tells me we can fetch it next week.
Its a parcel with plants in it - they'll be dead by monday. *facepalms* and she knows the parcel contains plants

Haha. Hopefully you get there sooner?
Well my stepdad made a plan - he's in a meeting tomorrow afternoon so he will pick up for me. Which reminds me, I need to send him the tracking number. I've been busy - cooking sweet n sour chicken and did 15 mins brisk walk on the treadmill (made 1km lol)
Got a new signature from another forum
Did a major clean up around my place - where would I get an Aquaclear 20 impeller replacement?
Salvaged some gravel from my old 60cm tank that was lying outside in the sun to dry out, got rid of the potting soil back to the workshop and a few bits / pieces that I keep on hoarding - got thrown out as well.
Now to hunt for some decent pieces of wood for the ferns, anubias and bolbitus.
who had success with heavily planted tanks without test kit? GH and KH test?
Me, but it's not crazy. I know I have soft water that's it
Most big shops may be able to get them in
Foubd some dw in my garden pile. Cut them smaller. One looks like some sort of hardwood - after boiling for over an hour, it wont sink. The other pieces sank, different wood.
Need to cut more tomorrow, will make a nice standing forest with some of the pieces for my 3rd tank.
Now to hunt for some DHG. Can't find any at most of the online LFS / plant shops.
And fail, dad never picked up my parcel bec he was too late. Duh, why didnt he go earlier? Luckily mother made a fuss and will pick up for me tomorrow as think they will be out all day.
Oh and Gino may be going to a new home - she needs a single old lady and no kids. My sis in law found a lady in cape town so we might have to fly her out to the lady once arrangements have been made. Gino has issues, want to bite everyone and giving us all sorts of problems - we've put up with her for 2 years and I did manage to get her problems under control - my parents just don't really know how to handle dogs or even work with them. Poor dog doesnt know what to do with herself. So better to the lady than us having to put her to sleep. I used to work with abused horses and I've had success with a few of them. One went on to become a show jumping champion.

me as well. I only used a simple pH / Chlorine pool testing kit - very very very cheap and apparently quite reliable as I used to live at a house with a nice pool. It was my main responsibility to keep it clean and check the water pH every time there was problems. Funnily I only once managed to get it blue for 2 months before it went green again. Drove me nuts.
So far, no issues but then again, I don't have shrimp or fish so I can get away with it. I do really need to invest a testing kit for when I get fish - specially for the bumblebee gobies and neon blue gobies when I decide to order them.
my pH is around 7-8... through my pH and ammonia kits away when i went with cichlid tank.
I am setting up a heavily planted tank with neons and shrimps so i just want to make sure I don't need to spend +250 per kit
As most will tell you, unless you have expensive fish like discus or cichlids, it's not really worth spending +R250 for a kit when you can pay R100 or less for a simple pH test just to keep your plants happy. Otherwise just take the water to the LFS and they will test it for you. I can't as I'm 100+km ish from the nearest LFS.
yeah. ill get a pH and ammonia kit again. not too expensive
I've had wood out for close to a week and it still floats. give it time
This one looks like some type of redwood - after boiling, I have a lot of brown / red tannins. Lol. The other wood, I think my parents picked it up from the river. It bends in different angles so I've had to cut it into smaller pieces. Thinking of making a nice little forest if I can get hold of some DHG - I want a wild look. And add some of the flame moss, the other mosses that I found at work. The moss I found seems to be doing well in water so kinda surprised that they are still alive after 2 weeks.
I can't even keep terrestrial moss alive outside of water lol
DHG sounds cool
I don't test my tanks
You? You dont? i shouldn't too
