Any thoughts on car batteries please as need to replace more than one - raylite or varta seem the preferable options ?

Added water sprite and water wisteria to tank. Wisteria was planted with ease, and sprite preferred to float. Will tie 3 stones to the stem and sink it like the Titanic. Hope the cotton lasts until it finds some roots.

Just make sure you get the right size battery for your car otherwise they never last. Usually this time of year is the real test.

Maybe worth a thread. My buddy and I were debating whether fish tank water is drinkable?

Back in the day when i was running around in Angola fighting in the bush war and drinking brown dirty water i would have given my left testicle for fish tank water.

Me on another note, getting fed up with being left alone on the farm and dealing with stuff breaking. Water pressure pumps not working, having to replace a multiport rubber gasket and still have a leaking waste port pipe and continually have problems... At least on the bright side, I still have water. Just so fed up with my dad not doing a regular maintenance on farm equipment that really needs servicing - a gas geyser that shut down while my parents were away for the weekend in JHB (exhaust was filled with "biltong" frogs, he had to clear it out when he got back - I went a day without hot water and he had to cover the exhaust hole to stop the frogs from entering into it).

Now it's over a week without water pressure in the house so I'm having to bath / shower in the cottage. At least I'm mainlining water gravity from the main tank to the house tank, filling buckets to my possie and making do on water rations til the 7th of July. I'm not new to hardships like this so I'm doing ok with that. Boiling water on the stove to wash dishes, water bottles for the dogs' water. A bucket of water upstairs for washing dogs' dishes. I also had to hook up the washing machine in the cottage laundry so that I can wash my clothes and the dogs' blankets every week.

Thank goodness it's only two more weeks before my parents return home and get this nonsense sorted out. I'm so over it now... And right in the middle of winter, both my heaters break down - thank goodness for my other two backup bar heaters and a hot water bottle, so far I'm doing alright. I guess living in Mooiriver for 2 years, used to the cold and having two scottish ancestral bloodlines make me quite hardy (cos I can't stand the heat).
