Thanks for the kind words about these fishes. I've grown them all out from 4.5cm juveniles to where they are now. Out of a total of more than 80 fish bought over an 18 month period, I've selected 2 pairs to try my hand at breeding these awesome fishes and the balance has been sold off. The majority of the fish in the first pic are also being re-homed shortly, fortunately to another forum member here who I trust impeccably to look after these guys. So now that I have the experience of growing out discus from 4.5cm juveniles to large 16/18 cm fish, I'm now planning to concentrate my efforts on the recent parasite-free fishes I obtained along with Dirk recently. The camera used is a canon eos 1000d with its standard lens. I'm hoping to upgrade the lens soon to be able to take clearer photos. Andrew
Very excited this morning. My leopard male/snakeskin female pair ( which are still young at 18months ) are busy raising their 3rd successful spawn. But up until now, most of the raising has been done by the female. This morning i was greeted by a lovely sight of all the fry latched onto the male solidly for the first time. Here they are at 18days old with the leopard male:
Well done dude, this is how you keep Discus. I will stick to my R12 fishies. I am glad to see someone as dedicated as yourself to keeping Discus.
Thanks Larch, its been an extremely rewarding experience especially that im now raising offspring off fish I obtained as 2 month old juveniles originally.
This is beyond amazing! Dude, all I can say is well done! You are obviously doing all the right things... Keep us updated with more pics please!!! PEACE
Wow dis is amazing. Would love to achieve this oneday. I looking into building a 800l tank next year for discus. Would I be able to grow 8 fish out in a tank like that? I'm asking you opinion as I know there are lots of people that say its better to keep them in n smaller tank at first until they get a bit older? Would you consider selling youngster to someone with the correct setup for them?
Howzit Andrew NICE CHINA - the pictures are good but to see them face to face is the real deal - considering an average body size (no fins included) you must have 15cm Discus there buddy. Our mutual "KB" will be a good foster Dad I know for 100% certainty. I get goose bumps thinking about Parasite free Discus spawning at 28cm!!!!!! Can you imagine?? You and Prof Bellstsdt are in a league of your own - enough said. Peter Leid
Awesome fish! I would also like to know more really interested in setting up a grow out tank for 10 small discus that will be big enough to get them to adult hood and then move them to a display tank.
