I'm not mad on that colour blue for some reason, looks almost kitsch or unrealistic, spoils that great scape IMO. As Amano says the background must not draw attention to itself. I can light mine which I have tried as mentioned, but then the fish look less dramatic like in your sample pic. Those stick on backgrounds won't work for my purposes or what I want as then you can't light the background. One of my drawbacks is having a tank with bracing as this is problematic with the lighting, so lighting from below comes essential. I have a plan though which I will give a go when I revamp the scape a little shortly... have some changes in store... wait and see, have been aqua dreaming .. :)

Here's an earlier pic of the tank with a little more lighting on the background, but note the three bracing shadows appearing..

Hmm... I see what you mean about the braces. Nice baby ancistrus on the front glass, and I REALLY like the ricefish. If only they would be produced in colors others than green...

It's a pity the photos don't do the actual tank the justice it deserves - one of the down sides of such a large aquarium.
For those of you not been lucky enough to see Trevor's tank in person.......... it's insane.
The effort, time and rare attention to detail are why Trevor gets to TOTM so frequently.

Now.......... get that CO2 concentrator working for pity sake, oh yes and the DIY bubble counter has got to go!
Fluval pipes & ends have arrived at last! P :occasion14:

lol Wade.. you are welcome to visit when in the Cape! The koi pond always looks good in summer..have been doing a little plant playing on the water feature.

Thanks Peter, yeah look forward to getting the reactor installed, what a pro job that is.. will get some pics up !

Tyrone, interestingly enough I found offspring in another tank which I presume could only come from the green rice fish, but they are not green, but stunning 'daisy blues', can this be or did an egg or two travel on plants from Sean  I have now isolated some preg females so time will tell.. I was fascinated how they produce an external hanging cluster of eggs on a daily basis for several weeks. At first I thought the females were somehow absorbing them at night fall as in the late afternoon all eggs were gone only to reappear the next morning :embarassed:

Yeah, they do spawn like that. Eggs in the morning, which get deposited at some point during the day. They're very nice fish. I am still not convinced that an egg or 2 from my system travelled across the country and survived, but there is always the possibility, I guess.
