Hi guys ( Ferdie) I recently purchased a Pi3 as my media center running xbmc with kodi. My wifi connection constantly drops and the same occurs if I use the ethernet cable. Any thoughts or suggestions. Is it broken or am I just daft? Thanks for any help... Marc
Do you have the same issue under normal raspbian? See a fresh build was dropped 11 Jan https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/ That said .. my PI3 have been rock solid on raspbian. Have not played much with media center distro's. Later Ferdie
First time I'm working with a pi. A friend suggested xbmc and kodi. I've seen people talking about entering code to disable wlan0 power off?
Yeah but that should not affect your LAN - eth0 stability. I would do stock raspbian first - make sure the board is 100% ... then go back to the media distro. Later Ferdie
On https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/ Download https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian_latest flash and test - should all work out the box if you do not have hardware issues. Later Ferdie
Not tried it yet. Can I save the current info on the sd card to my desktop to put back on later. I only have 2 sd cards with retro pie and xibian xbmc on them so no space?
Sure can .. it just takes a while. If your desktop is windows, you can use win32diskimager F: device above is your SD card.
Installed and working 100%. Thanks. Looks like it may be an out of range issue with my router. Now to get my repeater working...
Good news, glad the device is not DOA, yeah Wifi is getting tricky these days with the amount of people who have them. Might be worth doing a scan and seeing if you are not on a congested channel. Check your phone's app store - loads of wifi analysers you can try. Later Ferdie
While you all baking pi let me sommer jump on the wagon. Ferdie can I setup something to monitor and control humidity and heat?
Sure can ... how much do you want to DIY vs grab from the shelf ? Best value for money .. https://www.itead.cc/smart-home.html
Haha I guess DIY will save me some and I can learn something. Would you mind running me through what to get where? Maybe I should whatsapp you so you can run me through it, what to get and where and some of the programming. Unless somebody else also want to learn and you don't
So before you jump into the fun bits ... how would like to see the control of the humidity done? Humidity is a hard nut to crack - so you will need to define what your parameters are. Later Ferdie
I want to setup a grow room. So it needs to switch on the humidifier or heater when it gets to low and off when the ideal parameters is reached. Maybe a fan too for some airflow if needed.
So if you planning on a DIY swamp cooler - example https://robotfun.wordpress.com/2011/12/21/swampcooler/ Then something like https://www.itead.cc/smart-home/sonoff-th.html will work with the am2301 Never used the sonoff software but should work for your needs - you might need two units one for each metric you want to control.
