Watch it Jax they may employ you to coach them (for free) hahaha

LOL the faces is also different leopards is more "petite" but yes it cheeses me off when people mistake the one for the other both deserve to be recognized but the jaguar is my favorite big cat.

Forgot to say in my first post (and that is actually why I am back) that I also love the sun clock something old taken and turned into a multi use modern looking utilitarian item

Thanks for the pics. I used to love the trips to the PTA zoo when I was a kid.

On a side note/question: Has anyone been to the Tygerberg Zoo recently? My wife went there as a kid and says it was terrible! (she doesn't like zoo's so not sure if it's ok or not). I would love to take my 4yr old to a decent zoo but PTA is a bit far :p.

hardly any facilities, cages to small, and mostly bare mud or long grass inside. animals were in bad condition, and the place smelled like it needed a clean. i heard it closed a few years ago anyway.

    butterfly world was pretty cool..

If that was the case then it deserved to shut down! :sad5:

I've been wanting to take my daughter to butterfly world and World of Birds (Hout Bay)

And one could clearly see the animals are stressed. The chimp threw me with sand.
I am also glad it shut down.

Anyone who like a zoo/bird sanctuary should go to monkeyland and birds of eden at Plett. It is breathtaking.

Scape sounds like good idea.... But we need sponsors to financially support this project. Scaling will have operational costs... CO2... Ferts... Etc.... If that is sorted... I believe if we have financial support... There will be a lot of people willing to Scape...

Sounds like fun project which I would like to get involved with....

You can scape without CO2, and a really large tank you are limited by what you do.. :)

Wish that was closer to me,.. :)

Agree, a low tech tank would be good... using anubias, ferns.... Yes... sounds like a good idea.

I'd skip the anubias...too expensive considering it's growth rate. Ferns yes...maybe even swords, Vallis, Hygro...easy and fast growing

Maybe us Pretoria boys should keep our clippings in separate/holding tanks for a few months...then approach the zoo and offer to scape ONE tank, so it stands out from the rest...IF they put a board up saying "Layout scaped by APSA Members"...might bring more people over to us here. Just a thought...

Anubias would do good.. but as Jax says, there are many options.. most crypts would grow pretty well, and carpet.

So get together guys, you can achieve quite a lot with good imagination.

I'm willing to donate some C. Demersum. Here's an idea tho...why not do a tank that has local plants and fish? The zoo should promote the preservation of our local fauna and flora and they would very likely be able to easily get permits for that

Although, I don't think their tanks are bad at all

I might be busy with a project at JHB Zoo soon, so if that works out, we can definitely approach PTA Zoo.
