    Hi,

This looks like an awesome forum! I just restarted my tank after it stood empty for about 3 years and would like to actually have plants in it this time.

    The tank as is now:

    85 (l) * 95 (h) * 45(w)
    1 * raphael talking cat
    2 * upside down cats

    no lights
    no plants
    4cm coarse gravel

Sorry, i just read that i have to sign-off with my real name :)

    Hey, "Lachdanan".

    Welcome to APSA.

Raphael and Upside Down Cats are two of my favorites. Unfortunately the Raphael will outgrow your setup, mine was about 20cm when I had to give it up. If I had to choose between the two, I'd keep the Synodontis nigriventris (Upside Down Cats) in an African biotope, with lots of Bog\Mopany wood and Anubias sp. and Bolbitis heudelotii attached to it. You could try Vallis as well, but your gravel is probably not the best choice.

    Hi R.C,

Thx for the welcome. This is probably off-topic, but I dont really know where to post it, so here goes:

In Potch we have the sum total of TWO pet shops of which only one keeps tropical fish, and ZERO plants. I drive through to Jhb quite regularly, so any indications/suggestions as to where I could go to get advice and/or plants, wood, lighting?

Hi And welcome to the forum.

We have quite a few pet shops in Jhb and I'd take advice from very few of them :). Seriously if you need advice, esp. about plants, then this forum is your best bet.

Hillfox tends to be the best for plants and has a reasonable selection of fish too. There are apparently some good shops in Benoni as well but I've never been there. Basically you have to go in to a few of them and hope for the best....

Also take a look at the Clean Green Trading Post board to see if anyone in the area has clippings to spare. For instance I've got quite a bit that needs to go soon.

I'm not sure about LFS's in JHB, but you could contact Nick Hart (hartlands) from Hartlands Aquatics in CPT, he ships country wide. Otherwise create a new topic in the classifieds section as to what you want, maybe one of our members near you could help out with a few cuttings.

You could always try Discus World in Carletonville. I'm not sure about plants but you will always find interesting fish there.

WoW Hang on, try My Little Petshop behind Scooters, they have some good plants for beginners, also as soon as my plants start to reproduce quicker i can hand you some.

Lighting... If you dont want a high tech setup, then you can get all your lighting from Eb's Hardware. ( I used 4x15W energy savers in my 100L )

Welcome to the forum, good to see someone else from Potch
