Hi all, hope you well got this question I replanted my tank and there is no fish in at the moment
I've read that 30bpm is fine for 2-5 days then down to 15bpm for 2-5 and so on till you get down to the the tanks recommend KH

What I want to know is it a good idea to run the CO2 thru the night as there is no fish in the tank?
Any input would be appreciated :)

Plants only use CO2 during the day so at night it will just be a waste.

Would "day" not be dependent on when you turn the lights on? I read that CO2 should be turned on about an hour before lights go on and off when the lights go out.

Are bubbles not measured per second?

Yeah its 30ppm, parts per million.. You can stay at 30ppm no reason to go down to 15..

Okay I found what I was looking for.

Rule of thumb for basic setting of the number of bubbles: 10 bubbles per minute per 100 l of aquarium water.
    Example: 200 l aquarium: 2 x 10 = 20 bubbles per minute.
Adjust the CO2 supply to the desired CO2 content in small steps. Please note: The more vigorously the surface of the water is set in motion (e.g. by filters, additional aeration), the more CO2 will be expelled from the aquarium again.

Now there is currently no fish in the tank ( waiting for the s.repensand, DHG to carpet), and I am using a HOB filter for now. HOB filter causes high surface agitation.

With all that said that is why I am running 20 bubbles per minute ( started with 30bpm) bringing it down at 5bpm per week dosing bloom and grow twice a week at moment ( hope there will be Dirk se drupels at the meet) with medium light ( 1watt per 2 liter).

Well the tank is only a week old after substrate change and replanted already seeing new root growth on the s.repens and some runners on the DHG even the rotala looks better.

Dirk is situated in cape town. You will have to send him a pm if you want his drops. Alternatively you can go the "E.I" route.

i dont think that 10 bubbles /min /100l is an accurate enough estimation..

it all depends on your light.. more light = more CO2.. i use 2-3bubbles per second on my 200l tank

I use about 3-4 BPS (Bubbles per second) on my 222 litre tank. CO2 turns on an hour before lights go on and turns off an hour before lights turn off. Fish and shrimp are super happy and plants grow light crazy (When I dont kill them from EI dosing)

    This sounds all very complicated!
Is there no standard count for bubbles?? I see BPS / bpm / ppm...

Based on the rule of thumb - 2 bpm for my 20L tank?
