New to the whole aquerium addiction - just have one 3 foot Tropical - currently got a few mollies, platys and guppies (Total 14) with 2 apple snalis and some java moss with a piece of driftwood and 2 lava rocks
looking at starting a small planted tank next (+- 56 l) while the other tank "stabilizes" over the next few months

thats me still lots to learn and very eager ???

    Welcome Grant!
When I joined I spent a lot of time reading old posts (and although I have a bit of experience) learned a lot!
    BTW where are you located?

Welkom Grant! Be sure to ask everything that jumps into your head! Even if it seems stupid to you! Maybe do a search on this forum before you ask, to see if it had been discussed earlier, but alot of us wont mind repeating or just referring you to the older post!Do you have the 56L yet and what lights does (or will) it have? Do you want to go cheap low-tech or expensive (but beautiful) high-tech?

    - I'm based on the west rand (wilgeheuwel)

    - Will be getting the 56 l tomorrow probably, think its only got the standard lighting(15w) - looking at going low tech budget route (Getting married in a month so $$$ arnt flowing much at the moment)
I know this limits me on plants but everyone has to start somewhere right ?

    Any suggestions/direction ?

My suggestions dont get married :p just kidding congratulations!
soriously I would focus on doing alot of research first, "google is your friend" find out what substrate you will use, lighting, plant species and complementary fish to go along... it will make your life easier as well as your fishies

    good luck man..

    MMM little disappointed the tank is only a 25 L tank (Dimensions 40 wide x 25 x 25)
so dont know if i can use it for anything... no cover on it either. got a 3w 50 l/h hang on power filter with it
anyone any idea what i can use/keep in there - can i still put some plants in there, where do i get a lid for it (not really keen on the DIY route)

it was for free so shouldnt complain

Go check at Peter Bee Pets on Voortrekker Drive for a lid. You might keep some guppies if you like... Go check out Animal Kingdom at Hillfox for plants. For low-tech use potting soil as substrate and top it off with Silica Sand (pool filter sand) - if you want some I could take some to krugersdorp this weekend, or you could buy a 50kg bag for R50.
You can get low light plants like Java Fern or Anubia barteri var. nana from Animal Kingdom. You could beg for some Java Moss aswell from group members. For more ideas or questions feel free to pm or email me. Oh, you could also maybe keep a Betta Splendens male. sorry that I haven't included links as I always do.
