Are you talking about BBA (black brash algae)?
Then exel dose will help stop it.
Try add more water to the tank so the water line is higher so les CO2 can get out or in with douse filter because a flaks in CO2 = BBA

6-8 hours is the standard.. How much was it on previously? Lights on for too long and inconsistent CO2 can cause BBA. If u dose excel, that can prevent BBA..

Previously 10 hours, after adding Flourish excel the BBA did start to die.
Am i correct in saying that, more light = more growth.

more growth as in plants? or algae?

its simple, more lights = more carbon (CO2) & ferts..
works the same if you change that formula :p
more carbon = more lights and ferts
more ferts = more carbon and lights :p

so if you increase your lights without increasing the other 2 variables, you may get algae..

At least here's someone who hides the equipement out of full view. What a relief!. ;D

The challenge is to hide the equipement in such a way that - if you know where to look - you can still see if it's working.

For starters: try to hide the thermometer out of view, but in a place where YOU can still see it AND check the temperature.

    ;D
