Hi guys. I bought myself a new tank last week. 1m x 1m x 500cm With an overflow in the middle which I reckon could be used for marine but I will be using it to bring my heaters wires and cannister filter pipes in there so there is no pipes and wires next to the tank. I am getting the CO2 next week and will put it inline on a diffuser. My problem however is to decide on substrate and scape. I have 3 bags amazonia which I want to put around the pillar and to the back. Then I want to use another kind if gravel for the rest of the tank. I thought perhaps river pebbles. Small ones. It will look very similar to the amazonia. There I will place some nice rocks and spiderwood. And then plant only in the amazonia. Want to make it look natural....But wow it's a lot harder to plan than I thought. All the pebbles I get now is too big for what I want to do. Apparently the supplier if these specific gravel is using a different quarry to get them from now. Previously you got some that had a lot of smaller pebbles than the ones I have seen in 3 different big petshops . And another thing is I am scared once the substrates mix I will never be able to split them again. What if it doesn't come out the way I am imagining it in my head? Haha
Nice tank Look for river gravel or pool filter sand (they're both inert and won't affect the water chemistry, are small in grain size and are relatively cheap)... the PFS will contrast nicely with the amazonia, whereas the river gravel has more neutral colours (beige, orange, brown).
Nice tank...I'd think an "island" scape will work nice...specially as you'd be able to hide the overflow with stems and wood
Trompie have you tried the nurseries for the very small pea sized pebbles? Might work you out cheaper also?
Hi Freshfish. I have been to 2 but will go check out couple this weekend. I also reckon it will be lot cheaper. That's the size I am looking for. The more it resembles the amazonia in size of the pebbles the better
