Very good day Guys and Girls

So after some trail and error I've decided to take a step back and start a planted tank project from scratch. do the proper research and not be hasty.

thus far I've decided to to go with a 60L x 45W x (either 40 or 45)H with either (6mm sides and 8mm botton) or (8mm sides and 10mm bottom).
I'm also between building it myself or getting an aquarium(not sure if I'm allowed to use names:)) to build it for me. Planning to get some pricing this afternoon.

Looking forward to your advise and ideas.

Name and shame...we are all friends here...:confused2:

6mm should be adequate, even if you go 45high...you not gonna fill to the brim, so you basically gonna have around 110L. 60 x 45 is a VERY nice footprint.

So if i go with 60x45x45, will 6mm be enough for the bottom also? or will 8mm be better?

Bigger is ALWAYS better...or so I've been told.

    Granted...it was coming from a Taiwanese ladyboy...but I think it's solid advise

HAHAHA, then some would way it's not the size of the tank... it's what you put in it that counts..
But i think that Taiwanese has a point. but i guess as long as hers isn't bigger than yours it's all good.

any idea as to where i can get good glass prices in the Gauteng area?

Do a google search and phone around for quotes, that's prolly the best advice I can give you. No sense in saving R50 on glass, but spending R100 in petrol to get to the glass shop

That sounds almost like industrial strength, but im sure you sleep better at night knowing that even if the stand should fail that tank wont break. haha.
    might ship a tile.

haha look at pool bragging with his otto's. like dangling a carrot in front of a prostitute

It's over the top but piece of mind is critical for me. If I drop 135l or 300l on my wooden floors I'm going to be bleak!

makes 100% sense, especially if rimless. but if 6mm is sufficient for the 60x45x45 i think ill go 8mm (for some of that piece of mind).

guess that is fine for breeding (not a lot of substrate?). when you add rocks and what-not i presume a thicker bottom would be a better idea?

Glass will crack...regardless if it's 2mm or 10mm...if the weight if focused on a specific point (i.e. the sharp point of a rock). Which is why most people use polystyrene or eggcrate underneath their rocks (if they use a lot) to protect the bottom panel
