    Hello fellow planted aquarium fanatics.

I recently wanted to do a DIY LED project on a 60 L acrylic tank.
So as things turned out Vis had his Boyu Canvas TL-450 up for sale. One thing lead to another or shall I say the shower heads speeches LED to higher Rand/Dollar values and would have costed me over R700 to import the LEDS. So I bought the tank from Vis.

So here is the start of a very slow journal, but with a lot of pics:

    Tank with some extra goodies:

    All the goodies spread out:

The tank with all the LED's switched on:

The LED's in its non bright form:

This is the stuff that will make cars crash at night if you do tank maintenance and leave the lid open:

The other acrylic tank next to this one, the acrylic will also be scaped, both of these are +/- 60 L:

And where it will be for a while until we move:

As you can imagine I am extremely eager to setup and start with this tank but until we move this will have to wait :(

Hey, do you have one of those Lux aps on your phone? It would be nice if you can give us the specs of the LEDs and the Lux value at about 5 cm from the LEDs...

Yeah it is if your eyes can diffuse normal tube lighting but this is like a cleaner light and burns the retina :)

    Re: The LED way

Well I have been able to grow red plants in the past, but it never thrived. So I will be adding a few red and green stems that require moderate to high lit lights to grow. Also a nice foreground carpet and some nice rock. I still have some 1 - 2 pieces of palendaba laying around in the garden.

I was also playing with the idea of a mountain effect like WBS did with his setup and the one Vis planned with this tank originally. Will see what inspires this tank.. I loved the effect the LED's added to the Cardinal/Neons Vis had in here. Hopefully I can create a scape that will bring this all together.

I will be running pressurized CO2 in here.

So my findings are as follows:

10 cm away from the LED = 4355lux
20 cm away from the LED = 3042lux
Bottom of the tank = 1754lux

    Re: The LED way

Ok, that is about 65-70 PAR (big guess based on Greystoke's data). Not bad at all. What is the size of the tank? 403Lx484Wx460H mm? That is a cool 340--365 PPF.

What LEDs do you have so we can compare calculated Lux to what you measured?
