Hi guys I'm Muz from Bothasig Cape Town I currently have a few tanks but my 2 main tanks are a 1.3m FW commintiy setup and a 1.1 x 700 x 700 SPS dominated reef setup. My new tank which I am busy planning is going to be 2250 x 700 x 700, it is going to be a planted discus tank and oh boy do I need all the advice I can get as it has been years since I have kept discus. Murray
Yeah, I'm a late night owl.. do all my surfing on the web till the wee morning to gather info, my reef tank chows web time and now with my new FW tank, well, the miss goes to bed without me, she understands.. LOL
Going through this forum I notice a lot of guys are from CT and surrounds, nice to see ! It makes it so much easier.
w :welc If you need any help, any advice any plants just ask, the people on APSA are very accommodating!! Nice to see another fish enthusiast from Cape Town!!
Why is there so many fish lovers from CT and none from up north? IT SUCKS!!! Nevver mind!! Welcome and hope you enjoy your stay!!
Thanks Gert yeah, reading up as much as I can, seems ok though, not as hectic as reefing.. Strangly I find myself getting impatient now, want those discus soon, but I know I am a long way off. I am a bit out of water with the plants as my other tanks all have plastic plants ( dem silver dollars you know ) Muz
All I can say is if you rush into planted tanks it will bom out and you wont enjoy it! Time is on your side so take advantige of it!
Will do ! I just hope this guy can build a tank ! I don't know him from a bar of soap. I have unusually high standards.. he may not make it through the day if he is messy..LOL
City bowl.. I was waiting on your reply.. I wanted to use your tank building guy.. no worries though, the guys came through and I helped build the tank.. I was really impressed, they actually cleaned the glass properly, silicone was done well, they used Bostik whch I am not a massive fan of, I prefer Dow Coring, but I suppose just a personal choice... stage one is complete which is the sides and base, we drilled the base as well as I will have a large sump. I will leave to dry for 3 days, then we trim the silicone and put in all thr bracing and chambers. Will post pics in a mo. Muz
Believe me you don't want to use the guys who "built" my tank.. true after six months it had glass on each side and at the bottom, but you wouldn't want to put water in it, not a single panel is straight. I used a bunch of amateur jokers called Phuturelabs and if you want to see FALSE advertising and promises a company can't deliver on see this site: http://www.palaulab.co.za/index.htm If you were to blindfold a monkey it could do a better job, I am seriously looking to take legal action against them, but at the moment I'm busy so I'm just advertising their "high standard" of "workmanship" at every opportunity in the knowledge that I am 100% secure and accurate in my claims, and perhaps these delinquents may want to push the matter.... If you want a good big tank in Cape Town talk to Wayne Morrison at Aquatic Concepts, or Aquaconcepts his retail outlet in Bree street, he deals exclusively in marines but is responsible for alot of the biggest tanks in Cape Town. He's a good guy and knows what he is doing, he even offered to rebuild the tank for me, I would not hesitate use him next time. A big tank is a major undertaking it needs to be well constructed the volume of water is quite capable of completely trashing your house if there is a break, you really don't want to take chances. I am however doing work on my house and at the moment I am better off waiting till it's all complete before I do a large planted tank project. For me it was a painful lesson in paying attention to my first impression of someone, needless to say my hunch was correct. Good luck in your adventure Murray!
