Went to Upington yesterday and saw this at the LFS. Price was R319 for a 9kg bag so i bought 2 bags.

Going to give it a try and see how it goes. Hopefully its better than pfs wich im currently using.

    I used it.
    9kg bag (20lbs) was R195-
And there were also some 10lbs bags, need to check at home, around half the size, so should be 4.5kg for R115-
    Who says CT is expensive?
Strangely while the package was the same, the smaller packages content was orange/brown in colour while the bigger bags were different in colour.
Feedback is a bit of a mute point, as I understand the supplier dropped the price massively to get rid of stock as it will be discontinued (maybe only in RSA).
Same with some other Microbe Lift products like Stress Guard which was R115- for 5l.

Hmmm...living in these parts of the country is expensive. the colour of the contents is brownish...well seems i bought some old stock how did it perform in your tank? It states on their website it contains 25 micro nutrients.

Will redo my tank with it and hopefully i didnt waste my money.

It does neh...i will update as soon as i start to use it. Maybe this weekend I'll have some time to wash the "expensive gravel"

Planning to add a bit of osmocote as soon as i can get my hands on some. Found a website that sells it. 25kg for R2000, still waiting for a response if they can help me out with a 1kg container of osmocote.

R2000 for 25kg  Eish, ...not that long ago 25kg were about 1000 bucks.
And they did not sell smaller quantities.

The website is www.plasgrow.co.za i think they add like moerse markup, they responded on my mail , sadly the supplier they use only sell 25kg bags...so if someone has some osmocote they want to sell I'll be interested.

I wanted to sprinkle just a little bit of it on the bottom of the tank and then put the substrate ontop of it, should give the plants a great start with the new substrate.

    Well to late for that...

After washing and washing and washing to the power of 10 i still got cloudy water.

Substrate is light and feels like clay, hope it works.

I think as long as it doesnt leech into the water column it would be fine...cant say for sure that it wont cause problems. Lots of people use osmocote to make DIY root tabs with great success.

I have used this substrate before. works quite well but it is a bitch to plant. Also found that it tends to crumple very easy. Never try to plant HC in it, it will never root properly. Might work though if you do a dry start.

Thanx Pierré, i understand the planting issue...i planted some crypt plants and they uproot real easy...think that is why they recommend a 6cm layer of it.

I also planted some MC so i hope it grows (holding thumbs) did read somewhere that foreground plants do not do well in this substrate.

I use Osmocote under ADA soil that is a few years old. No issues whatsoever. Plants growing well. Mostly crypts.
