People thinking that low tech means they can't compete are dead wrong. Just look at the pictures below. All of these tanks are low tech. Now what's your excuse?

Yes, Larch, this is directed to you, and a few others. Imagination is the key. Yes, and time, but mostly imagination and inspiration.

    Hi Sean,

Some really awesome inspiration in these tanks. :icon_thumright:

I'm going to be setting up a 1ft that I'm going to do low tech. Just to help some of my plants along until they are growing again beautifully.

    PFP, PFS, Desk Lamp...

I'll post pics as soon as I start the setup and post regular pics of it's progress.

It can be done guys... :hello2: :icon_thumright:

Actually it's not that. It's the hardscape that's stopping most of us creating great scapes. The more you add, the tank just seems to swallow it up..

Rocks are easy to get hold of. Pebbles make for great aquascaping. there are loads of options out there, you just have to look. Go to garden supply companies. You'll find loads of rocks and things there.

As I said on another thread, I think my low tech looks pretty damn good and when it's mature I think it will compete well with my high tech. If you think you are at a disadvantage then you are limiting yourself before you have started

Joshua Tree, please would you post some pics of your low-tech setup, I'm keen to see how it's doing. How are you keeping it "low-tech"?

My tank is high light, low tech or maybe I'm wrong? 24wx4, no CO2 injection and low tech plants. I consider this low tech...

I will post pics as soon as I get a chance.

i also have a "low tech" tank with 4x24w and no CO2. only got one plant in there.

one of my favourite tanks at the moment is also low tech with 2x24w and no CO2, been running for about 3 years, starting to look awesome now!

Re: Low Tech does not mean "crap"

I agree that low tech does not mean it's crap, however, it does mean you won't be able to compete against high tech tanks at that level. Limit on type of plants and style.

But I have to say, low techs with some imagination and creativity you could create something amazing! I know even without plants, some scapes are really incredible! ;D Just purely with rocks and sand you can create something wonderful!

I feel that a lot of people that start off with planted tanks, start as low tech.. I know I did. Maybe people feel that low tech means "noob" tanks, which is slightly demoralizing to an extent.

Low tech are easier to start with due to their low setup cost, high tech when things go wrong they go wrong quickly and much more severe

I think that if you are a judge or sponsor.

you should be able to enter a low tech tank, just for fun

Re: Low Tech does not mean "crap"

I have 1 "high tech" tank out of 7 running. Meaning CO2, major ferts and difficult stem plants. All the other tanks are low tech. I personally feel that low tech demands a lot more creativity and effort with your hard scape than being able to hide the defects with whow plants and effects. The low tech tanks I run have a more "natural" look to them than the "high tech" tanks.

Going high tech is the way we see things or want to see things. Nature never intended to be symmetrical we made it that way, one third rule, or that was the way we learned down the line. Go with your gut and go low tech

Re: Low Tech does not mean "crap"

Well go check the best tanks in the world at the moment most have slow growing easy plants and those are the top ranking tanks at the miment still inject CO2 but use low maintenance plants so a low tech tank can compete with high tech tanks it just takes longer to grow
