Just wondering if anyone knows where in Cape Town I can buy liquid nitrogen in a very small quantity, like maybe 20 or 50ml :D (nothing to do with my aquarium, don't worry!)

I found this place via another company who could not help, just in case anyone ever wants to buy. I will see if I win, and what the price is for your interest, or lack thereof :) :D

    Hi Adrian T,

I use liquid nitrogen on an almost daily basis in my research. If you need that amount just let me know. Problem is that you will need a container to transport it in similar to a thermos flask, but a little stronger. We have such containers which we call Dewars. Let me know if I can help.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    Hi Dirk,

Thanks for the offer, much appreciated. I did get this response from that cake lady that IceColdCat gave me,

"LN2 is pretty difficult to contain, and 50ml will have evaporated by the time that you've managed to get it home.

We don't generally sell it, as it's awkward for us to decant.

However, we could sell you a half a kilo. We need to use weight so that we can calculate it on our scales after it has been decanted.

Do you have a suitable container to transport the LN2? It cannot be transported in a normal thermal flask, otherwise it will explode.

We do have a small unit which you could borrow, but we would need to take a deposit on this.

The cost of the LN2 would be circa R80.

Let me know if this works for you."

So I might give that a try. Seems quite cheap :)

    Curiosity killed the Chongkie :D

    Hi Adrian,

What you have been offered actually sounds very reasonable because by the time that we drive to meet each other we will have spent that amount on fuel in any case. As you can see, the lady is also offering you a special container which is very kind of her.

I would go ahead and accept her offer.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk
