    Hello Jimmies!

I'm trying to find Lava/Volcanic rock in CT. Seems a little rare at the moment.

Anyone perhaps know of a place that still sells it?

Jimese, many koi outlets have it, Atlantic koi in Hout Bay usually have it, I bought several bags from the Stodels fish koi outlet in Kenilworth some time back, got them down to R120 bag from 180 ;D. Alternately use the large size power sand. As Ray says you can use the gas braai stuff but that is more junky and sometimes is red colour and needs a clean. ANother option is to take a cheap package tour to Lanzarote, I bought back some from there, as you can pick it up from the beach.. I also recently got some from the Pilanesberg, u just need to know where to look, there are some larva flow patches just outside the back Suncity gate on the way to the game reserve

Coincidentally I also found a Flourite mine there and entrance, but the gate was locked and I left my battery operated angle grinder in the Cape :violent1:

I tried the Stodels here at Bellville, but they were out of stock. Apparently they are planning on opening a marine section later this year. Should be interesting. We need a really good marine store here in CT. (If there are places and I just don't know of them... sorry)

I think Milnerton is the next one on the map.

But will also look at braai places, never thought of that. Maybe Tafelberg Meubels might even have.

Henekka there are many fireplace, braai and gas places in N suburbs, I just tried the Braaiplace center for you, but I think they must have closed down or the Friday braai was over.

Phishman, the stuff is light weight, think I paid R120 or was it 130 for a 2KG bag.., I used three to four of them in my latest scape, they are also great for tying moss or pelia to..as you will see shortly...

    Thanks Trevor.

I have managed to source some for the shop and if I can get more, it will sell for about R50/kg if anyone is interested.

Will load a pic of the stuff shortly and perhaps you can comment if it is the same stuff you bought.

Those are huge pieces compared to what I got, presume you could crunch them down.Mine looked pretty much the same kind of thing, just a little classier

I see that lava rock is available on the current Campcon order list so can in turn be ordered through your LPS, wholesale about R17 per KG, so perhaps double that for retail..

Bark and Stone in Montagu Gardens: http://www.msnb.co.za/ They even have fine black volcanic gravel (last I was there).

Be careful of the fine volcanic gravel-sand at MSB because its high in metals like copper etc.

Also, "lava rock" if often not from a lava eruption but a burn by product (they even used to come from cremated bodies etc. burn process) so not truly LAVA stones. I wonder how this affects pH, just saying.

The Campcon" lava" rock we used to stock, popular for malawi tanks, but they havent had stock for months even though its on the list.
