    Hi all,

So, I'm getting a new fish tank and I'm excited. I had fish tanks when I was young (in high school) but it was depressing asking my mom for fish money. Now, I'm old(er) and have my own money!

Getting a new 150 x 45 x 60 setup. Good LED lighting, no CO2 (yet, maybe one day when I'm even older). Definitely aiming for a planted paradise, with a couple of fish swimming around as an afterthought.

Will probably be asking a bunch of questions in due course, about substrates, plant advice, etc. In the meantime (and I'm not sure if anyone reads these intros) are there any good online plant stores around? I stay in Centurion and there are a few fine local pet shops nearby, but usually aquatic plants are a distant after thought.

    Okay, chat later I guess,
    Jim.

    Thanks all!

Quick question about substrates: I like the dark ones (like Seachem Flourite Black Sand, and LanGa Aquarium Soil looks nice too). But they seem expensive, especially if you need 4+ bags. Any suggestions/recommendations? Is there a cheaper alternative? Of course, if the expensive ones are significantly better, then I guess it's worth the cost.

Hi Jim and welcome. Langa is one of the cheaper substrates and works good. I use Flourite black in my tank (140x45x50 ) witch i mixed 50/50 with black sand witch i bought from Farat at the Basoruto centrum in Centurion. works like a dream. Planting in Flourite black is mutch easier than anny uther substrate because of the finner grannules of the substrate.
