    Hey Neil,

Also have some more Duckweed again if you want, it has tripled in my tank since I last gave you some! It really is a pest!

Thats the one. I'll take as much as you can give. I fully realise it can take over a tank, i'm going to be using it to stem green algae bloom in my 4ft and for my El Natural betta tank. Java moss is not that urgent, can wait for a couple of month.

Hotdog83 gave me some a month back and it lasted all of a day in my 4ft...

I've tried... but can't totally eradicate it in some of my tanks.... they just keep 'popping' up... I do give them a good trim down every two weeks, and normaly give it to Feathers.... duckweed seems to be the favourite dish for her angels and gouramies, they go through it like little lawnmovers

Funny I had the same problem until I added "water lettuce" and then all of a sudden it started dying off, still cant completely get rid of it but there's defiantly a reduction in growth, do you think it could have anything to do with allelopathy, "the plants letting off chemicals that have a negative effect on another plant"?
this however, is not the answer to getting rid of duck-weed because the water lettuce itself grows faster and is even more of a pain! :p

Duckweed make ideal food for goldfish and chiclids! I use a fork to harvest it and then wipe the fork in a net to dislodge the clump from the fork. The goldfish finish it within a day! By understanding the potential of duckweed and managing it, one can use it to your best advantage!
    Good luck!
    Gert.

i was at rietvlei dam near irene in pretoria yesterday, and i noticed quite a lot of duckweed floating in there, i also saw some tiny plants that looked like mini duckweed but i think it is called wolffia

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolffia

does anyone have any experience with growing this or its invasiveness? next time i go there i will collect some and grow it in a bowl on my kitchen windowsill and see what it does...

    Hi philfarm

In fact I would say its more a case of the water lettuce outcompeting the duckweed for nutrients. Water lettuce is a very invasive plant, so watch out what you do with that stuff. Make sure it does not get into any local waterways.

WBS: If you found it in a local dam then I guess it must be invasive. Please take a picture when you go back again.

    Hey guys
avoid the duckweed like the plague.
I got some 4 years ago with some imports.
it took over the tank ,I used to fill checkers packets with the stuff.
I moved the tank cleaned it,2 weeks later I had it back from a few dried out leaves on the glass.
I remove it with a small net.mainly by pushing the plants down and getting my filter pipe to blow it into a net.
it's the STD of the plant world.
