Hello everyone, My name is Nicolas Rix, I'm from Cape Town, living in the City Bowl area. Work as an art director/2D animator. I've actually been browsing this forum for quite a few months as I've been learning more and more about getting into the planted tank hobby. I've been on other forums and watched too many youtube videos. Still probably only seeing the tip of the iceberg. I've been a fish keeper/hobbyist since I was 12/13 and worked in a fish store for about 5 years. I've been an obsessed hobbyist ever since. About 2 years ago I shutdown my reef tank (9 year old system). Was super sad to see it all go. Sold what I could and gave away most of my equipment. must have poured in a couple 100k into that over those years. Still really miss reef keeping. Super stressful and rewarding in many ways. I'm excited to get into planted tanks and now that freshwater shrimps are more readily available, it's a pretty exciting time to get into this hobby. Tons has changes, particularly the fish species and plants that are now available and the aesthetic well thought out replication of nature is what really grabbed me. Plus a fish is significantly cheaper than a rare reef fish or coral. I've been keeping/collecting and growing various aquatic plants, emersed for about 2 years now. I've got 2 x 6L bowl setups at the moment and I'm planning my first planted tank. It's going to be a 600 x 400 x 400 low iron glass tank with a DIY acrylic wabi kusa wall similar to the DOOA ADA walls I've seen. It will have a paludarium vibe with some of the rock work and wood being above the water surface with some terrestrial plants mixed in on the wabi wall and upper rock work. That's the plan anyway. Only issue is getting hold of someone that can make the tank. I've searched the web and found nothing. So if anyone here could point in the right direction, that would be great.
