Trying to get an Import permit, is not to bad. it costs R50-00 per year for which the permit is valid then has to be renewed. You have to apply at the Dept of Agriculture in Pretoria.
Let me just add, please do not think of importing straight away, it takes a month for your permit, and secondly, they want to know what species of plants you are importing, as there is a lot of red tape. When importing plants a Phytosanitary certificate is required from the plant suppliers which cost in the range of R 1000.00 per order. This is to ensure that the plants imported are snail free and disease free. The exporters of plants are only interested in orders of $1500 per order. You will also have to upto date with you scientific names of your plants, because the Dept Of Agriculture is only interested in them, and lastly you have to specify for what reason you require the plants.
