I discovered this today sprouting up in the fynbos part of the garden. Coincidentally it came up a few weeks after Dirk's last visit so he might well know what it is ? Perhaps I can slowly convert it to a submerged life and so add another dimension to our hobby ?
Standard issue Khakibos, Trevor. It is actually originally from Mexico. I haven't visited that part of the world yet, so sorry, not from me. Its from the seed that you buy for your birds, than contains weed seed from the maize growing areas of SA..... It is highly drought resistant, so this won't work in the aquarium. You can perhaps try to sell it for its medicinal properties, or you can use it as a fumigant in your garage, smells like turpentine, lovely stuff.... Regards, Dirk
lol, are you sure ..? I was reasonably sure that if it was not from your visit then it originated from a Rastafarian gardener we had for a couple of months while our normal guy was on leave Here's a pic of some folk that arrived to remove the rest, not sure why they were so concerned about it, but good to be alien conscious I guess ....
I've just been walking in fields of khakibos on Dassen Island and it did not look the same unless it has taken on another form given the rugged climate. This to me Cannabis sativa.. or is it ! I have some Cape wild dagga growing next it and it's not the same as that..
The khakibos was also more this colour grey green, well the fields we stumbled through were, but again it might have been the harsh climate that changed the colour from lush green ..
Wild dagga has got nothing to do with Cannabis sativa. Its scientific name is Leonotis leonurus. And Luis, you can't smoke it.....
This colour of k'bos I have found on the does look damn similar I admit. If it is that's great... as was just wondering where to get some from as seem to have a damn cockroach issue in the kitchen all of a sardine lol and don't want to spray insect repellent because of the tanks in the next room so was advised to use KH'bos instead ! Any thoughts here ?
Trevor, what is in your post 7 does not look like Khakibos, but the stuff in your last post i.e.12 is definitely khakibos. When it reaches that size or even larger when it produces seeds, it becomes quite pungent and that is when you can use to chase away cockroaches. I would cut off the stems, tie them together in a bunch, hang them into your garage to dry and then put such a bunch between cupboards in your kitchen. Not sure what the missus will say though....
lol ok thanks, no she would be delighted as she is threatening to spray repellent so under pressure to find an alternative no that light grey colour was just a reference for the colour of what i was told was KH'bos by the botanist that was with me and advising on the project.
I remember that stuff from my days past... what a head rush followed by a headache... Yes, I too was young, beautiful and stupid, Now I'm just stupid...
nice original scape, pity about the fish ? or hydroponic cannabis, 95% of the clients visiting the hydroponic shops in the cape are for growing the contraband.
so when the plants grow taller the water level naturally drops in time with all the absorption and evaporation and so more growing space is created below the lights lol, ingenious !
