Hi I am Gawie and I have a serious problem with MTS.

    I have 3 aquariums in my house a 1.5m (About 550l), a 1.2m (about 300l) and a standard 3 foot
I also have a couple of ponds (Two to be exact, 800l each)

I adore my Eels, rainbows and certain catfish.

Have not really been into growing plants or lets rather say I have not had much success growing plants.
So I am hoping to learn a lot from the others around the site, because the 1.2m tank will become a low tech planted tank pretty soon.

    Cheers

    Welcome Gawie,

Another catfish & eel lover.   Man I really miss mine.

You've come to the right place.   Cameron should be putting up a couple of articles soon, in the meantime feel free to ask.    8)

    Hi Fe

Your avatar looks like a stunning fire eel, was that yours?

I currently have two a 55cm Fire and a 25cm Tyre track, unfortunately though I have to get rid of the eels because I do not have enough time on my hands to take care of all the water around my house. (The 1.5 is on it's way out.)

So scaling down and will hopefully then have enough time to devote to a planted tank.

Anyhow will post pics of the progress on the 1.2 and ask loads of questions when the time comes.

    Welcome Gawie.

Dont worry about the plant thing, once you know more or less what plants require it shouldnt be too hard to get some plants growing nicely :)

But I guess theres always lots to learn!

    Cheers!

No, unfortunately I haven’t had the pleasure of keeping a Fire eel of my own.   Back in the days when I had my catfish & eel setup, Mastacembelus erythrotaenia wasn't exactly easy to come by.   I knew of one person that had one and when I saw it, I completely fell in love it.

I however did have a Tyretrack eel, also got to about 30cm or so before I sold the setup.   I promised myself that I would one day have a catfish & eel setup again, but that idea is slowly fading away (as with most of my dreams).   :'(

Sorry DJTarr the tank is sold already,
the buyer is not interested in the fish. :-\
I cant accomodate all of them so I have to get rid of some fish. Like the eels and some others. (Have not really decided who needs to go but I know I cannot accomodate the eel in a 1.2 so he will be the first to go.)
