hi JP. I bought the RO system before the CO2 system someone told me it would bring my pH down but it did not work. Now I just use it to remove all the dissolved stuff in the water, jp so you think its not necessaryto use RO water?

Hope Tryrone or Brenton can help here, of your GH and KH is to low your buffering is going to be low and that could cause a pH crash from the CO2 that you are adding, killing all your fish.

Adjusting the pH is only neccassary if you are planning to breed discus IMO, most fish adapt to your water and if you bought them from a petshop in your area they are more than likely allready adjusted.

It could be that that plants are giving off more oxygen, CO2 in itself is of no use to fish and in high concentrations kill fish.

I don't really know but it's working for me. I will do some research on dangers of CO2 overload and buy a CO2 test kit if necessary. My 1/3 water change is completed now and my fish still seems to be happy. I will also only feed them granular food in the morning and bloodworm in the evening and skip there afternoon snack.I really hope my fish are all right with the tap water change and that it will help with my algae problems.

Hallo worsie.Did you enjoy the planted seminar on Saturday? I bought ADA aquasoil but I need to add more t5 florescent light to my aquarium before I can do a proper planted tank. One of the talkers also gave my a great idea for my water changes to use only the first three filters on the RO system and to bypass the actual RO filter. Can someone tell me the name of the speaker with the springbok shirt because I want to ask him a few question if possible?

Cool. I tried the DIY CO2 and it worked. I bought aquasoil and I'm waiting for that tropica supplement to arrive in SA. My algae problem look much better and I think soon it will be 100% good. I also halved the bubbles per second because there were to much CO2 in my aquarium. I cant wait for the weekend so I can modify my RO filter and add more t5 tubes so I can reach the 3watts per gallon.
