Hi guys. My tank has now been running for a month and seems like my filter is properly cycled now however I still get this film on the surface. I have pressurised CO2 and at the moment only dose Flourish at 10ml twice a week. Which seems to be sufficient. And then i have ADA in the tank as well. But every night i get home i remove some of the surface water as the CO2 bubbles get stuck under the film and i am afraid that my fish might not get enough oxygen. Thus i only run CO2 when i am.at home to check what happens in my tank. Thus i am not getting the growth potential i am supposed to. This is so annoying!!! I will have to get a surface skimmer. Which brand can I look at that won't cost me a kidney? And why does this keep happening? Thanx Martin
Most likely protein bio-film...if you aerate your tank during lights out...the surface agitation will more than likely break it up.
I hate to be a pain But APSA has a very nice search feature: http://www.apsa.co.za/xenforo/threads/white-film-on-water-surface.11043/ http://www.apsa.co.za/xenforo/threads/oil-film-on-water-surface.1288/
I know but it didn't answer my question about the ADA so it did not help and where is the fun in being part of a forum if I cannot ask something that has been discussed before but the previous posts I searched did not give me exactly what I am looking for. And seeing that I feed minimal as there is minimal livestock in my tank it is not the food. And I dose Flourish and I did not read anything about that in the posts as well.... But yes I will search more and ask less
Ask away...as long as you dont mind the occasional post with a link to a previous thread every now and then Still happens to me as well...PLUS...every time you ask a new question, someone else might see it and use it.
Thanx Coldcat. I will probably have to install an airstone then. Do you switch the air off during the day*?
Yes...as you dont want the surface movement during the day, that will cause gaseous exchange which will have CO2 "escape". During lights out/night it's fine...as both plants and fish take up oxygen...
yeah It's on a timer. I have it turn on about 30mins after lights off, then run till 2 hours before lights back on.
