Just a heads up, I ordered 100 CPDs from mark. I sold 80 to Sam's and kept 2o. 14 Survived in my tank and Sam's lost about 30.
They weren't in great shape when they arrived, some had concave bellies and looked emaciated. I am hoping it was limited to my experience, but I felt an obligation to share.

The survivors however are looking better by the day and are getting their colours coming in nicely.

The shipping was quick, same-day from JHB to CPT.

Don't want to cause issues but I feel that feedback is worth a lot.

    @Theos
I under stand if you had problems but you never came back to me or told me about any thing

I supply a lot of fish
At great prices as you know
Trying to help people out and do my very best
This forum is about growing and helping every one

I just don't get why you would have to post it on here
I'm trying to help and save people money

I imported a batch of 900 cpds and you the only person that lost a single fish

I have 6 different forum members that got out of that batch Durban , cpt and port Elizabeth as well as locally I have supplied probably 10 shops with them
They were a bit thin on landing
I had fed for a week so imagine what they did look!

Sorry to disappoint you live stock is a gamble

Just a question did you quarantine them after landing before supplying sams aquarium ?

Exactly, @fishmark - when one lands an import, it's usually a scramble to keep them alive as they are not fed before and on the journey and live in small bags or containers. Specially so much for otos who are sometimes wild-caught and not used to all of these things, it takes time to get them to recover from being shipped and handled.

CPD 's are notoriously bad shippers (HIGHLY sensitive to ammonia and nitrites) and the stock from the East isn't always the best as they usually land with bacterial infections...which the wholesalers seldom treat before they ship them out again.

It's for this reason that importers reluctantly imported CPD 's in recent times have. Much like otos...you are at the mercy of the exporter with regards to quality, something that the importers can't really foresee...which is why it's always best to post PHOTOS (as I requested above) of the ACTUAL imported stock so prospective clients can see what they getting themselves into #JustSaying

    Hey bud,

That is why I prefaced my post by saying I hope it was just limited to my experience. And I did tell you that they were emaciated when I received them.
If you have sold to others and they didn't lose a single CPD they can vindicate you, I am not trying to start a witch hunt. Even good sellers can sometimes have a bad experiences.
It's just that if you say you imported 900 CPD's and lost none I wouldn't honestly believe you as that is basically impossible - we have many people who import fish here and I don't think any of them would say it is likely you didn't lose any. If you are saying you imported 900, and of the ones you sold, no one lost a single fish; well I also wouldn't believe that as they arrived with one dead already in the packet.

I think it is more honest to say they arrived fairly starved and you did your best to bring them back up to health. And yes I know you often don't feed before shipping to stop them fouling the water - but that does not extend to them being emaciated.

Your prices were good and the shipping was good too.
So all in all, it averaged out.

And yeah I know livestock carries risk for sure. I was just sharing my experience, not trying to rock the boat.

Sjo...that's rough. Criticism is part of doing business, specially in the fish trade...going cold turkey on a customer isn't always forward thinking. Not my place to tell someone how to run their business...so each to their own...

We live in a world where there will always be good and bad service...which isn't always the supplier's fault or wrong doing. It's how you treat those situations however that show customers...and prospective customers how you handle the environment. Look what happened to SPUR...all I'm saying is be careful...

@Theos if I remember correctly you didn't want to ship more CPD's anyway. You promised me 20 of the 100+ with split shipping. Not entirely fair but amiable, then you only had 10 left. I'm sorry man but complaining about the quality of imports isn't the greatest thing to do, it's mostly out of @fishmark s control and if you wanted he coulda hold them longer and made sure they were all absolute tip top condition, but would likely come at cost. Rant over

Bottom line when importing fish is that the buyer takes the risk. I have been part of a group that imported fish where some of my fish were not in the shipment. I have also been in a group where very few fish arrived alive (lucky for me my pair of A. Veijitas were fine). Its the nature of the business. If you are not prepared to take the risk then simply don't buy fish online and rather go to the LFS and physically buy fish.

Personally I will risk the import to get something special. Fish that I can find at the LFS will be bought from the LFS.
