    Hi all.
I am thinking of starting dosing Excel, as I am not running any CO2 in my tank yet.
When is the best time to dose, just before the lights come on?
According to my calculations I should be dosing about 1.75ML for my 70L tank. Does this sound right?

    TIA.

Yup, before lights on is the best time.

    Cool, thanks.

I see that after doing a big water change, it is recommended to increase the dose, do I administer this dose just before the lights come on, or should it be done as soon as the water has been changed.

Sorry for the 'anal' questions, but just want to get this right the first time.

Thanks to all for the patience. :occasion14:

It doesn't REALLY matter when you dose it, but if you don't use CO2, then add it just before lights on.

No worries about the questions, it's how we learn!

Jesuits best dosing in the mornings. The excell stays in the system for 24 hours (don't know all the science behind it) so it makes sense to do it this way. My regime is at follows in mornings before leaving for work 5ml for each 200l everyday. Even pressurized CO2 tanks. Then on waterchange day I dose 5ml per 40l rite after tank is filled up again.

When are your light on Pierre? I have been dosing when I get home because that's when my lights are on but now I'm wondering if I should do it before i leave for work?

My lights come on at one and off nine at night. Except for one tank going from three to nine at night.

The way I see it ...

Ideally you want the excel in before lights (30 min before maybe?)
This gives it time to spread throughout the tank so the plants benefit from it right as the lights come on.

If you use it for an algaecide I don't think it matters when you add it?

That was my thinking. I used to dose in the morning when my light were on for feeding but then I thought it was being wasted as the tank was dark all day long until 6.

Na I don't think its wasted dude. Way I see it is its only active in water for 24 hours (cant reacall where I saw that) so it just means you give it a nice long time to mix in :)

Oh and maybe it attacks any algae in this time without the plants using it all up first?
