I'm looking for pure strain endlers, not hybrids. I know class N is asking a lot as documentation is needed.
You not gonna get documented endlers in SA...your only option if you MUST have the classification documents is to apply for permits and import trios...and even then I'm not sure you'll get it. Why is documentation needed?
Hi Olivier, All this N-class classification is not worth the paper it is written on. Who certifies this classification in any case? All of the Endlers that have been imported by wholesalers into South Africa are from Malaysia and Singapore are crosses. If you know Endlers then you can see the type, pure Endlers have specific coloration patterns that are different from normal guppies and hybrids show this quite clearly. However, there are a few reliable Endler crosses and pure Endlers in South Africa. I brought in sold black bars with a lot of green and orange about ten years ago that are also kept by many folks. Then I have the blue star type Endlers which I imported a few years back. Tyrone Genade brought in some Rio Oro Endlers about 12 years ago, but they have petered out due to inbreeding. There is a Japan Blue Endler cross that is in South Africa, that was imported by Tyrone Genade about ten years ago. They are very healthy and many are spread around the country. Then I have purposely crossed normal guppies and my Endler strain to generate a Tiger Endler strain. Maybe this will give you a picture of what is going on locally, and what is realistic to obtain. Kind regards, Dirk
The problem is most of them are hybrids. The documentation is a kind of proof they are pure breed (class N). It's very hard to make the difference between them taking in account their appearance but their behaviors are different. I'm curious to ear from people who breed them here. Importing them would be expensive and no one in SA would pay the price for them.
Dirk, Thank you for giving me an overview, I want Endlers mainly because they are smaller than Guppies, the pure strain thing is just something in my head. One question I have about these hybrid strains, do they produce bigger fish in general (as they are crossed with bigger species) versus the pure ones?
Hi Olivier, The hybrid strains are sometimes bigger, but mostly are the size of the original Endlers. Endler guppies in general are must faster swimmers and more active than the lazy normal guppies, particularly those with the massive tails, but then I guess we have done that to them so that is why they sit with the problem. I will see if I can post some pics of my Endlers for you to see. Kind regards, Dirk
Original strain imported, maybe Lago Campoma Bluestar Endler Japan Blue Endler crosses Tiger Endlers which are a normal guppy Endler cross
I am definitely keeping an eye on this thread as for months I am desperate to get my hands on 'pure' Endlers Sent from my E5823 using Tapatalk
Dirk, You've got some nice looking ones. I which I had more tanks... I will stick to my German line Cobra Guppy for the moment (until I get more space).
