    Hi Tyrone,

Yes those saddles are starting to look good, but it has been difficult to get them to breed true. If you look at pic 1 then you see the female with the saddle and she is, I think, what one should use for breeding this line. However, if you look at pic two, you would see females that have that black dot on the tail. They just carry a gene for a black dot at the tail base, not a saddle, and you end up with males like the upper one in pic two which does not have a saddle but that black dot is not what I am aiming for. What one also has to be careful with is to select for strong yellow and not blue. I am currently selecting for either that sort of pintail or round tail. Other tail shapes that appear are a mess with sort of messed up flag shapes, against which I also select. You are quite right, Endler genetics, does mess with the tail shape. So I have been culling huge numbers of offspring....

On a different topic, my Tiger Endlers are now coming on very nicely, should take some pics of those and post them, as they are really stunning.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

Will see how it goes.. I got a few tanks to spread them out, and will pick out the nicest looking ones, including females with more colour, discarding the rest.

    Thanks for the update.

I must try find a way to bring them over to the US. Figuring out the rules here is a nightmare...

The fact that Tyrone is in the USA has very little to do with his wanting to leave, but rather with the fact that pale males with academic qualifications have great difficulty in getting a job here, whilst countries like the USA and Australia are only too glad to have other countries pay for their education and then to import them, free of charge, so to speak.

South Africa cannot actually afford to lose them, but what can you do?

So true.. I know many people did not want to leave.. but what option they have?

I have a good friend of ours that has been in the UK since 1998.. she wants to come back.. but to what? Really sucks..

She is now here on holidays and we were just talking about it.. no hope for her here, no jobs, and no money.. so she has to remain in the UK..

Believe it or not, for many expats the money means little when they do not have the family and friends, the weather and the food.

A while back I read a story about SA being short of metal workers... well, a friend from the UK came back to SA thinking he could now find a job here. Well, he is now heading back to the UK...

You are right, Luis. I have a job, I live in a safe little town, the living is pretty good but being away from family & friends is a huge cost and I regularly find myself looking at job add back in SA. But, as the Prof pointed out, I am pretty much wasting my time. I recently read a job add for Rhodes and the uni knows it can pick and choose. Its minimum criteria for a senior lecture is 10 years teaching experience. I have about 5 now and as an assistant prof here my next step up the ladder is Associate Prof here in the US. I guess that is a minimum of 20 years experience back in SA...

Anyway, I'm going to find a way to import those guppies!
