Hi have shut down all my tanks, but kept some of my plants.. On the jar I have: - Cryptocoryne wendtii - Hairgrass - HC - Hydrocotyle tripartita - Moss The Jar has been left on full sun daily, slightly open on top, using ADA Amazonia topped up with some Tropica substrate. Very simple setup, left to its own devices, the plants grow and spread.. It is two months old. Emersed jar at work.. by Cape Aquatics, on Flickr
I am also surprised with them. Had it closed, and cyano appeared.. Did not bothered me, but the plants were not really growing much.. So I opened a bit and left it alone. In two weeks the crypt took off, water receded, algae is drying off and the hairgrass spread.. A learning process.
Surely having the lid closed would have caused them to use up all the CO2 in the jar? So it makes sense that they grew better without the lid on?
I was opening it once a day.. But yes, I think that it was the cause.. With the crypts is a balance of humidity and keep it fresh enough for then to grow. I think I got it now.
I did not wipe the glass. When on full sun it will get condensed water on it, then at night gets cleaned by itself.
