    Hi All

Just a question...what would be the best temperature for a tank (243ltr)(moderately planted) with a Discus x5 with Neons x10 and rummy nose tetras x8?

Discus will need a minimum temp of 30 degrees. To keep them healthy and happy. You can keep tetras with them but expect them to die out faster as you "boosting" their metabolism with the warm water.

    It depends on the discus.
If they are wild caught, I advise 29 degrees.
I have local bred discus in my tank with tetras at 27 degrees.

I agree with Singu about the 29C, but this temperature is way too high for neons. You breed neons at 21 to 22 C and they burn out rapidly at 29C. Cardinals are better but their optimal temp is 26 C. Rummy noses are much better because they can cope with 29 C very well. For most other tetras this temp is too high.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    yeah cardinals...

as mentioned, their optimal is 26[sup]C[/sup] but they do fine at higher temps. i kept cardinals for more than a year at 30[sup]C[/sup] and never lost one.

I agree with WBS that cardinals can be kept with discus and I think that it is the only other tetra that really can be considered. However, your filtration has to be good and you must quarantine the cardinals carefully before adding them to the discus. If you add ich inadvertently in the process you can loose your discus and this can be disastrous and very frustrating.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk
