Hey guys, I finally got some vallisneria at an LFS. Even better it's corkscrew vallis. Can't wait to get it home and into the tank. I got 3 individual plants for R45.

Anyone else have this stuff? Could I see pics if you do? I have heard it's a real great background plant and should be good for my pseudo biotope tank :D

I was wondering about the fact that I see almost NO vallisneria in the shops here... Why would that be? Years ago this was the "staple" plant of aquariums. Actually I have not seen any in the last two months.

I think vallis isnt that popular anymore. Requires a fair amount of maintenance and there are other plants, particularly stems, that look much better and also require very little effort.

PS: I have some vallis. It has stayed very small. Not like the usual vallis that takes over the tank in a matter of months

I had the vallisneria var nana - it has never thrived in my tanks for some odd reason, maybe because I used to rescape so much that it has never really recovered...

Vallisneria spiralis, if I'm not mistaken. Agreed, Vallis can take over a tank, but it can also be very nice looking if grouped tightly. I used to have a few species but, like I said, it used to be one of the most common plants available...

In 2013 / 2014 - I used it as one of the plants for the substrate compare experiments.

It thrived in direct sun ... but in the end I gave loads away and a tank disaster now sees me with 1 maybe 2 bits left - it happens.

Thanks guys. I'm going to move it into sand with root tabs once I find some and rescape the tank. I got one of the last 2 pots at the shop.

It's the american species, but I'm fine using it for my African scape, I don't think we would find the African species here

My knifefish like it for sure :)
