Can rocks from the beach be used in a planted aquarium?

    Hi I recently went to durban and I got rocks from the beach. How do I test if the rocks are safe?

    first off.. collecting rocks from the beach is illegal :embarassed:

    main thing you want to test if you want to add a rock to the tank is if the rock has dolomitic properties that harden your water. to do this, try scrape some of the rock off and add to some vinegar or acid. if it bubbles, it means its dolomitic. if it doesnt, its probably ok to add to your tank. if you cant scrape it to get small fine bits to test, you can try pouring it onto the rock
